@EA_Aljo he was talking to me lol read the thread buddy. I told him to reach out to a streamer who lives in his area and find out what ISP he uses.
They were tagging me each time so it appeared they were saying this to me. Apologies for the confusion.

Hey if you guys haven't switched your DNS to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.4.4 you really should. It's made a huge difference for me. I used to barely get 2 wins in Champs cuz the lag was so bad. My first Champs since switching I just went 11-9
Still getting some lag but that's my ISP which will be changed on Monday. I can't wait to play in Champs with no lag
- 3 years ago
@OzzyGoose78That just sounds like your own DNS issue. I've tried every combination in the book for a year, including that, and it does nothing because it's not the issue. It wouldn't even make sense because what DNS works for YOU in Vancouver (right?) has no bearing on what server works best for someone else. It's a specific internet location thing. Nor does it address non-online modes.
@SpaceFury65Uh, NO. If you're in New York and he's in Vancouver, the exact DNS that works best for him is not the same that works best for you. He could be in New York, and that'd still be the case.
You can test which one is the best for your exact connection details, if you'd like. Not using a default ISP DNS has no bearing on whether Google or OpenDNS or whatever works best for him. In fact, your ISP DNS might be the best depending. It's all pointless because it's not the DNS that is the issue in this thread. If it were that easy, we'd have this resolved in 10 seconds, man. The DNS you provided did absolutely less than nothing, and I had lower speeds yet. - 3 years ago
I don’t understand how someone from EA couldn’t reproduce the issue of the delay increasing with each successive game. It’s clear as day. Maybe it doesn’t affect everyone due to geographical differences and different ISPs but like there has to be so many people experiencing it. How can they have no theory on why this happens
- 3 years ago@9up3dprurovj It's either that no one on EA's side is experiencing it, and this could be the case when you look at a good number of players not having this issue. Or it's that it suits EA to keep quiet about this issue so as not to invest further in fixing the issue.
Their rep comes in here and repeatedly tells us since they can't replicate it, they can't fix it. This is a tautology, its a pointless recursive statement. If they want to replicate it, they need to go where the issue is present. And since they refuse to do that, we have to assume the latter position that they're simply not interested in fixing the issue. - 3 years ago
Been awful the last week. Not even a late night boost.
Every other game works perfectly, online and offline. One single game doesn't work properly online or offline. Clips provided with no theory from the devs as to how this can happen. EA's year in the making middle man answer, "Wow, that stinks. Fine for us. Good luck with that." Part of me prefers this answer to the usual, "We'll provide an update." Now, I don't have to wait and hope for an update.
- 3 years ago@DeliveryForKiki Precisely the idea at this point. Play hot potato with the issue, say they can't replicate it on their end, and hope you get worn down enough to quietly make the issue go away so your thread isn't sticking out like a sore thumb on their forums.

We want you all to be able to play without lag. However, the internet is largely out of our control. There are a ton of different reasons why lag happens. Again, our servers are just one part of the puzzle. We get these reports for every online game. Just like online games from other companies do. If we can't reproduce it though, we can't fix it.
There was a problem with the EU server a couple days ago. We were able to find out what was causing this and get it resolved. That's not the case with the other servers currently though. We also tried reproducing this according to what Kiki mentioned, but were not able to.

"The Internet is largely out of our control." If every other game works fine, online and offline, then it very much seems it's something specific in your control, with your servers or data. It also totally glosses over OFFLINE modes (much as offline is not completely offline, is it?) having the same delay. It glosses over NHL21 not having this.
Why is it an impossible task to get a more concrete theory or conversation with a developer? I can get whatever data needed, talk to whomever, provide as many details and clips as needed. But I've done that in part, and I've never gotten one answer with any reciprocated detail. My clips showing that exact problems have never been addressed. Until that happens, you'll forgive my skepticism in the investigating of this issue. It's obvious that FIFA also has the same problems we've detailed. It doesn't seem specific to any local area.
- 3 years ago@DeliveryForKiki Just curious, how does RUSH and Play Now work for you?

There is no developer interaction here. I don't blame you for being skeptical. The best I can tell you is that your specific details were used to reproduce this and it couldn't be done. We'll keep an eye out for more reports of this.
- 3 years ago@SpaceFury65 I don't play HUT. I get my sluggish delay in EASHL, offline free skate, Versus, Online Shootout -- literally every mode, not just server modes.
The few times it cleans up (sometimes late at night once in a blue moon), online and offline both work normally. It's never JUST online. They're connected for reasons that escape me. If at 3am, I suddenly feel my delay lifted in EASHL, I will go into offline free skate and it will also work perfectly again. - 3 years ago
@EA_Aljo Why is the first step trying to replicate it and not EXPLAINING it? It happened, and I provided the visual evidence of it happening; surely, people who design the code of this game can theorize. I can't replicate a tumor either, and yet medical professionals diagnose them in others as the first step.
It's been a year of dissatisfactory interactions, with no help on this 1-way street of providing information. You ask; I provide; it goes nowhere after. This is a miserable experience playing this game, and my issue is shared by others across multiple EA titles. I've had it with the team behind this game. - couture2fat2fly3 years agoSeasoned Veteran
Have you been trying to replicate the issue online or offline? Because out of curiosity I tried offline free skate and didn't notice any input lag myself.
Online, however, it should be pretty easy to replicate as the issue seems present in every mode I tried. 13ms ping should feel much the same as playing offline with 0ms.
Any serious gamer is able to tell the difference between 13ms and 80+, so maybe have actual gamers play from different locations and provide feedback instead of just relying on the game ping?
- Dadaruklija3 years agoRising Scout
@couture2fat2flythis thread is NOT about ONLINE issues.. unfortunately we have much bigger problems than just delays in the online game. Our game is terrible OFFLINE too..just try a game offline or free-skate then you can see if it's just an online issue or offline as well

Weirdly, my connection felt much better online and offline from Monday-Wednesday this week, and not just limited to late night. Sure enough, Thursday felt awful like usual. Hip hip hooray for false hope! It's absolute torture to get a taste of vaguely normal gameplay.
The last couple weeks, I've also been getting stop/start speed up lag, with my ping shooting up to 800+ along with minor packet loss. But only on NHL, and I'm hardwired. Even with my year of horrible issues with this game, I've never had this before. Just adds to the flavor. Funnily enough, the few days where my connection felt normal, I still got the occasional stop/speed up lag, so they don't seem related.

We are the exact same person. Pretty much exactly the same experience including the gameplay earlier this week along with a couple instances of speed up lag that I have never had before. I really don’t understand what is going on with this game but it’s awful. It’s not just bad because the responsiveness is delayed, but it literally fluctuates between varying degrees of bad WHILE I’m playing. I have different elite controller profiles and I’ll literally be switching between them after whistles because every shift my player is turning and skating different. I’m going insane. How does it seem like nobody else is experiencing this yet then there’s you who basically describes my exact problems to a tee.
I have heard people speculate that it’s potentially a routing issue? Back in NHL 15 there was a “captain lag” bug causing certain players ISPs to connect to EU servers leading to input delay, even though their ping displayed as normal. I ran a Wireshark test and I am connecting to a few different Ireland IPs upon launching NHL every time but I have no idea if this is normal or not. Who tf knows at this point.

I also feel that somehow it is related to the bug where extra controllers appear

Connection quality is completely random for me as well. Had days where I won everything and next day I lose 3-4 games in a row with fat-man lag in every game so I have to stop playing online. Recently, i played a game against a guy where I was down 0:5 and I quit, met him next day again and he quit in the second period after me going up 7:2.
Consistently bad is Rivals for me and I am stuck in Div 2 and basically given up going to Div 1. I don't even mind when players go for wraparounds all game long against those "top" players, but I want to be able to defend them and with fat man lag, there is simply no chance. And then you have all those bad connection "glitches", yesterday, I quit a game after going down 0-5 against a guy who was .500 after my TOTY Makar actually lifted his stick just before intercepting a puck and my opponent scored on an basically empty net. I have about 20 videos of "phantom pokes" where players either lose the puck or miss the net / shot but I think everybody knows that the game is broken online. I mean, even guys like Sleeveless Gaming are complaining on Youtube about the game so I guess that's a good sign, maybe their opinion has a higher impact than ours.
Did some tests as well when I was visiting relatives last Christmas and played my HUT Champs on PS5 on a dedicated 1 Gbit Router / Internet Connection. I had exactly the same record as I had at home and the same problems with certain games.
When I got home, I created a Mesh network with WIFI APs and when I tested my wifi connection quality to my LG C1 TV and PS5, it even said that my connection is not good. I played HUT Champs anyway, gameplay was choppy but I still managed the EXACT same record (13 Wins) as the dedicated 1 Gbit LAN connection...
BTW, EASHL is basically the same, connection is very often unplayable. And I actually bought the Xbox One Series X edition of NHL 23 on a discount because some good friends wanted me to play with them, I still haven't played one game where the Xbox team doesn't have a disadvantage on Crossplay against a PS5 team.

I'm pretty sure we're not even in the same country, so it's definitely VERY weird how mirrored our issues are. When I have zero issues with any other game, and have tested everything possible on my end, I'm not gullible enough to believe it's not directly related to EA. Something is corrupted with how my game transfers its data, and I won't believe otherwise. How little the EA team cares about resolving or even just explaining this tells me that they know the exact issue, and it's just too much of a bother.

I tried to play HUT Champs today. Had to quit. Two first games completely rubbish, normally 1-2 first games are playable, but not this time. I'm getting to the point of qivin up here.

Can you give me some more details? Are you on a wired or wireless connection? Have you done any troubleshooting? Are your players feeling sluggish or is there noticeable lag?
I bought the PS5 just to play FIFA, my favorite game and the prize I get for that is EA not caring about our desperate reports about the same problem. I'm really frustrated and disappointed, because it was great before the last update. I don't know what else to do, I've even changed my internet provider and I'm one step away from deleting forever any possibility of spending money with this company again. It's sad, but I feel frustrated and helpless. I did everything you can imagine, several technicians have already tried to interfere in the network, in the modem and even in the data transmission route. It can only be with EA itself, but it doesn't want to know about solving it.
