@EA_AljoWhat you mean with ,, beginning of the year ,, ? First of January or beginning of the season ? Could you explain me that plz ?
Sorry about that. The images we receive before the game is launched.
- Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@EA_AljoBut nearly all pictures are from before the start of season 2021/22, sometimes even a season older and not from before the start of the season 2022/23. So this headshots are more than a year or even two years older and can not be the current sent. You also have the possibility to use HUT pictures as portraits for the missing important players till you get them. NHL 23 with old portraits from before season 2021/22 and older are not acceptable. No other sport game doing this. If means for example Sandersons picture will not be in NHL 24 earliest in NHL 25 cause is not at the NHL website now and you always use headshots which was sent a season before and no current sent. Other Sport games also add likenesses during the year in an update. From the NHL Team we got twentyfour this year and twenty are removed cause retirement or playing now in other not licensed leagues. No step forward, every year the same scheme.

This is probably the one time I will defend EA this year, because calling this years game and roster a disappointment would be way too generous.
Team head shots are done in camp at the beginning of the year. Due to licensing issues EA is stipulated to only use headshots sent to them by the respective league where the player plays.
More than likely EA is getting the current years headshots before players report to camp. That is probably why headshots tend to be outdated or not available
- Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Caliboy6262_714 Ok and what speaks against to ask the leagues for missing headshots and to update later ? They updated Zegras in a Roster update later in NHL 22. Some years ago, guess it was the Rookie year of McAvoy there was a big headshot update in January or February. So it is possible. They also can use HUT Images from this players till they have ? By the way, the most headshot Images are made from Getty Images photographs. I think where is a will there is a way. I know for many this is not important, for some yes. But If you do not change the small things and details and ignore customers wishes since a decade the result you can read in this massive negative threads here and elsewhere in other forums and social media. Every company is as good as they listen to their customers wishes, also If its small one.

Hounding leagues for updated player portraits is probably very low priority for them after release. I mean they can’t even be bothered to add players who have already played in the AHL last year to the roster without a portrait. So they are more than likely not going to make it a priority to add player portraits for players in game. I am not trolling devs so please don’t ban me again. I am just trying to be honest with this user
- Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Caliboy6262_714No one will ban you for the truth. Since years I pray here, in other forums, social media about more player likenesses, headshot pictures.
- Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace@EA_Aljo I took a look in the roster updates you released for NHL 22. Oct.4th, Oct. 9th, Oct. 20th, Oct. 22, Nov. 2nd, Nov. 5th, Nov. 24th since this rosters Trevor Zegras and Spencer Knights headshot images not in. You added them at the roster update from Dec. 8th. So it is wrong that you need to update the Images before game is launched. So it is possible to add headshots for players like Beniers, Boldy, Kent Johnson, Blankenburg, Brink later as the launch date of the game. And yes, they have them oficialy on the NHL website.
- Caliboy6262_7143 years agoRising Hotshot
@Froommey I totally get where your coming from, they simply just don’t care about accurate rosters.
Last year Matt Boldy played almost 60 games in the AHL and they didn’t even bother adding him until he made his NHL debut,
Yet, there was a glitch yesterday where you could put any player at any position you wanted in HUT, and they fixed it within a couple of hours,
It’s just not something that anywhere near the top of their priority list. As soon as you accept it the better you will feel. - Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace@Caliboy6262_714 No, no. To force them will bring very small success. I had in player likenesses, headshot images some small success during the years. That last year Zegras and Knights headshot came in later after the release maybe my success. Same as some likenesses of Donato, Kotkaniemi. Never give up to give pressure. I know that they fixed the Hut problem during some hours and ignored all the massive bugs for offline modes. Sorry forgot, they fixed one. lol ;-) They going to destroy the game. Part after part, from year to year. My prophecy that the crossplatform for online will be the next desaster.
- Caliboy6262_7143 years agoRising Hotshot
Just an FYI. Matt boldy played almost a whole season in the AHL and didn’t get added until he made his NHL debut. If you are waiting for certain AHL rookies to be added you may be waiting a while.
Also, in years past it has been like December when they finally update the AHL and juniors
- Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace
It starts to add them mid November up till early December. I know this process of AHL waiver very well since many years. As I remember Boldy had a long term injury at the beginning of his AHL Season so he was not able to sign the waiver. Same last year with Holloway, so he was not in the game too at NHL 22 as Boldy in 21. If an AHL rookie has a long term injury at the beginning of a season the chances are low that he signs this waiver form. Only thing he will be added when playing minimum one NHL game.

I hope you’re right. So many good prospects missing because this is their first year in the AHL. I hope your right and next week we see a decent amount of players added
- Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Caliboy6262_714If I would be the boss of the roster team, would release every working day an accurate Roster. They do only all 2-3 weeks. I, the small roster creator who earns nothing did and do this for NHL 22 PS4 this way with my ,, daily updates ,, rosters. You will find it in roster share upload section for PS4.
- Caliboy6262_7143 years agoRising Hotshot
Your on operation sports to, huh?

- Caliboy6262_7143 years agoRising Hotshot
Yeah I am lol. I’ve seen you post in the roster thread. When you said “daily updated rosters” something clicked
- Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@Caliboy6262_714Usualy this I await from a multi million dollar company. Roster updates every working day. I mean when anything is to update. Would also update every real player headshot image If they let me do. All for free without money. I guess it gives also many Canadian students they would do the rosters at summer Holidays for free.
- Beauts903 years agoSeasoned Ace
Although daily or even weekly updates would be nice, I don’t think that’s quite necessary. I do think there are a few things that are must haves as far as rosters go though.
- To add to the convo you two have been having, I personally think there is enough evidence to suggest EA does have the player portraits much, much earlier than they are added to the game. If they actually don’t, an automated email set up at the beginning of the year to be sent to teams monthly as a reminder would take no time to set up.
- We absolutely need the ability to merge our roster edits (or edits from a roster share) with a new EA roster update. Allow us to transfer the changes we made to players to a new roster update that way we don’t have to re-edit every player when important players are added or draft picks traded.
- Speaking of that, allow us to move draft picks!!!
- Finally, there is no reason that roster update notes can’t be provided detailing what changes are made with each update.

There seem to be more missing players than usual and a lot of that has to do with the fact that more CHL players (20 and younger) are playing in the AHL so they don’t appear at all in the game until the always late AHL roster update. There’s also a lot of good future NHL draft prospects not in the game who have played games on their respective teams.
It’s frustrating that a lot of good AHL prospects played in the AHL late last season but STILL aren’t in the game. The roster update that gets them in the game should be this week based on past games but I’m so tired of waiting this long to get realistic rosters for franchise. It shouldn’t take till December for this…
- Caliboy6262_7143 years agoRising Hotshot
Honestly I wouldn’t bet on it.
but you are right in your assessment . There is an unusually high amount of CHL eligible players playing in the AHL this year. Also, with Slovakia really re-emerging as a power for developing draft prospects as of late it be nice if they tried to get the license for the slovak league.
I know it’s a long shot, but it would be nice to see the KHL reintroduced in to the game. The KHL (when it was the RUSSIAN SUPREME LEAGUE) was in NHL series as recently as ‘09 if I remember correctly. I know at one point the NHL viewed them as legitimate competition when they were luring top NHL players back to russia at one point 10 years ago, but with the collapse of the supreme league teams really can’t afford to pay 7-8 million dollar salary’s anymore. I think the highest KHL player makes like 4.5 million. Truth be told the KHL prospects can make just way more more money here in the states and are coming over sooner and more frequently, so the KHL can’t really be viewed as competition to the NHL anymore. Plus the KHL doesn’t even have a video game. It’s not like some kid in Canada is going to stop watching the NhL and start watching the KHL because he saw Kunlin red star in his NHL game. Quite frankly it’s stupid. But with everything going on in Ukraine right now and EA removing Russian teams from FIFA it’s not likely to happen.
Plus from what I’ve heard the NhL and KHL have a pretty good working relationship now and have agreed to honor each others contracts. So you won’t see situations like 10 years ago when kovalchuk left the devils with like 5 years on his contract to go back to Russia. That’s just won’t happen anymore.
- 3 years ago@Caliboy6262_714 I’m not gonna act like I understand the licensing terms around having certain leagues in the game but it probably all comes down to money with EA
I think adding the Slovakia league into the game would be a great idea, it’s up and coming and you’re seeing several high draft picks taken from there each year now. Idk why they got rid of the KHL but no way EA adds that soon with the war going on in Ukraine. I’m not sure we’ll ever see the NCAA/USHL in this game
As a draft nerd (who also wants realistic franchise), I wish EA would get a little aggressive in that department but I don’t expect much to change in the next few years - Froommey3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@zchippy7About NCAA and USHL they could add with similar Team names, individual logos and the possibility to change the names for offline modes. Its also possible from law to buy college player likenesses. Maybe the most will give it for free cause want to be in the game. To ask a player for his likeness by a phone call first, seems not a heavy work.
- 3 years ago@Froommey That seems like something the game should be interested in but considering they can’t even or won’t try to get head shots into the game for good players who have been in the league since early last year, there’s no way they’d make that effort.
I’d like to think it’d be in EA’s and US hockey’s interest to try to get more US born prospects and players in the game but the evolution and changes in this game move at a glacier pace.
