NHL 24 Ideas: Practice mode (Club and Solo)

Hey, so there was a time when you could actually practice against each other in club. This was taken out of the game for whatever the reason was and because of it, we now can only select to be on the same team or have the goalie on the opposite. They added open scrims but there is no ability to practice 1v1, 2v1 and 2v2 plays and situations other than in a ranked setting.

I would love to see for 24, this option brought back into the game but going one or two steps further, lets improve all the practice modes together.

Lets get a more in-depth scenario based training where we can set up different offensive and defensive situations.

  • Let us be able to set cones or CPU players on the ice that will charge and body check, charge and poke check, or back skate with the rushing player, etc.
  • Give us the ability to put little targets on the ground for passing training or place a CPU or rubber stopper for saucer training.
  • A  cooler idea would be to set a zone where the AI teammate can spawn randomly in each time for a pass and you have to identify and pass it to that player within a given time.
  • Use a rubber stopper to bounce the puck right back at us for One Timer practice.
  • Have our player and goalie spawn in a specific location and show where the open spot of the net to shoot is.
  • Provide feedback for the goalies when a shot goes in, with a too far left, too far right, too deep, didn't challenge, etc.

This game needs to give more tools to the newer players, or even the experienced ones, allowing them to improve in an offline setting, rather than having to throw themselves into online to learn the game.

These are just some ideas but at the very least....

Can we at least let two people play on opposite teams in practice mode using the same console? You can do co-op practice but only when you are both on the same team.

Feel free to add anything else you guys can think of...

  • @hiperay great ideas. When I heard about the practise mode first time I was expecting much more. I think the biggest lack of the current practise mode is that you can't practise with a goalie. I have never played much as a goalie and the reason for that is that I have not been able to practise to play as a goalie anywhere. I don't want to go to drop in games because Im so bad goalie that almost every shot goes in and everybody leaves the game before the game ends. I have tried to play as a goalie in be a pro but the gameplay in bap feels so different when you are playing against ai players. It would be cool to be able to practise different scenarios like you mentioned with the whole club and with every positions. In practise mode you could not need to take any pressure of winning and it would be the right place to try different loadouts as well.

@hiperay Yes. Please. Yes. Please. this is really important. working out something with friends is important, it will improve the game, knowledge of mechanics. this is important because it is a service game and something that will improve the interaction is necessary.

well, it's absolutely fantastic if the training can be started in lobby mode when we are waiting for teammates, or searching for an opponent.

I would like to show the book
Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness

and think about what we provide by default in the NHL.

For example, one of the variants of "Nudge" is a waiting room in club games.

What we see now is that we have come in and are just waiting. Waiting hours per day, waiting months per year. We are waiting for our teammate to come in, we are waiting for the sixth player to be found, we are waiting for the search.

To start training, we wait for loading, we have to leave the room after practice, we load when a new teammate has arrived.
Training is difficult to play and necessary, we are nudging not to play training

    Solution path:

You go into the club - > you go out on the ice.
Your partners are there. You can go for attack or for defense
Who is AFK - automatically sits on the bench, the rest can play 1x1, 2x2, play attack scenarios, train defense, play goalkeeper

    Benefit:
    Getting rid of waiting hours.
    Improving skills
Improving the social part of the game

there are really a lot of examples when players in the lobby do not look at the text, but do something.

When we have assembled a full team, we are right out of training by launching the search game. The game is being searched for, the players are playing at this time.

@MGrandalf64 Thanks for the compliment. Learning goalie is very difficult and it takes time believe me I have been there! I will let you know though that if you are practicing with your club, you can in fact play goalie against them in open practice. Its the only way currently to practice vs humans which at least that’s something. Its how I also found out a 95 wrist shot power and accuracy with close quarters snipe against a stand still goalie is difficult if not impossible!

@bruanor09 Once again you are making a great suggestion based on facts. It is a very large deterrent for why people do not want to play the game. Having to “do nothing” while we wait 20 minutes for a game can be brutal. I like your idea of a group ice rink for practice in theory. The idea that you could be sitting on the rink and chilling while you wait for everyone to show up. Goalie could be getting shot at by fellow team members with each one having a puck to practice with or a button could be pressed or setting option toggled on in menu to remove your puck and make yourself available for passing or practicing one timers with your teammates. The ideas are up there on what could be done.

@hiperay " team members with each one having a puck to practice with or a button could be pressed or setting option toggled on in menu to remove your puck and make yourself available for passing or practicing one timers with your teammates."

yes, in this variant, a lot of pucks is a good idea. Even then, you can not remove an inactive team member, let him stand with his puck and does not bother anyone.
  • I feel that, the best way I find to practice goalie is the be a pro mode, you start as a low overall so id recommend pro/all star to start, but I found being such low overall actually helped a lot in practice when I went to play WOC I was actually really good once I had the stats! Plus once you get to be a little higher OVR in be a pro and are saving majority of shots bump it up to superstar and continue the practice, I know it’s not ideal but imo it’s the best way they have currently to learn it
