@Socair What possible drawbacks would there be?
See my previous post…
You can search best region, but doesn’t mean you’ll find games easily. Unless you’re playing with AI in EASHL, I suppose you would match up with the same players over and over. I already see that as is. And in HUT it would mean longer wait times if you restricted the ping to your lowest. There’s far more players searching at any given time in the NE region than the NW.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in AB too and it would be nice to play on 10ms or whatever. Just being realistic about possible outcomes with such a server.
@Socair @dannythetemp @EA_Aljo @reddeer874
Well of course there is going to be more playing searching in the Northeast because the servers are better there. If they bettered the servers for us Canadian folk there would actually be way more people playing the game online. Nobody plays online in A good majority of Canada anymore because the Ping is so lopsided between the majority of the people playing with low PING. It’s unfortunate because people like myself want to stop playing this game entirely because of the connection issues.
- DannytheTemp3 years agoNew Veteran@Tedfox39 The best I can get is about 25ms, which I could live with if there wasn't input lag. I've felt "better" games with higher ping. I could fight through ping issues but I can't play this game adequately with whatever is generating the input lag, it affects everything you need to perform
- 3 years ago@Дэнниболлс Dear developers! Does EA have any plans to make a simple and fair implementation of the network connection? It just got to the point of absurdity. Not always, but very often, when playing with the Swedes or Finns, it is simply impossible to play! Although I have a ping of 15-17, but in such games the bot reacts to any button presses on the gamepad with a delay of almost 1 second! With my speed at 90 and acceleration at 90 and without fatigue, I am overtaken by rival bots that have speed and acceleration of 85! For our team, the puck does not stick to the sticks, but it sticks to the opponent. Defense Defenseman with a golden TRUSILENCE cannot hit the opponent's bot, and if he hits, he cannot shoot him down. Passes from opponents go right through the sticks and skates of our three bots, and our passes are always intercepted by the opponent. I have been paying money for this game for many years. But every year I get more and more disappointed, because the implementation of the network connection is dishonest!

I think you are confused about how server gameplay works. There aren’t “better” servers anywhere. There are more people in the North east though. That’s just population. That was all I meant about more people searching there.
You don’t play a team on separate servers ever. Everyone in the match is on one server. There isn’t anything possible outside of LAN matches to allow everyone to play on the same ping. Peer to peer does, but those connections are often unstable and can be manipulated by shady players.

I understand the server situation. I think it’s sad that the NhL online side of things in the North is failing because when the servers get over populated in the US it basically makes the game unplayable. People are frustrated and it seems to me that there is less and less teams or players that are playing a mode like World of Chel. I just think that if we got a server for Canadians there would be a large amount of players interested. But the more and more people that no longer play the game the harder it’ll be to ever get those players back.

Also, while we are on the ping topic. In NHL 21 with the same internet connection, which is 500 up and 500 down on my PS4 basically any world of chel game I would get a consistent 45 Ms. Ever since I purchased my PS5 my MS for nhl 22, and 23 will never be better then 53 Ms. Would this be something to do with the servers, input lag different for the Ps5?

The servers are not overloaded. Having a small difference like 8 ms could come from anywhere. Also, while adding more servers can help those farther away from a server, it would also make for a much smaller pool of players since this would split players from other servers. If the servers were overloaded, you'd most likely see more servers added.

Well I’m just trying to make sense of why the latency issues are happening with NHL 23, nothing from my internet stand point has changed, but yet my online experience has gotten worse with nhl 22, and 23 compared to any other nhl game I’ve played online.
Yes I’ve talked to ISP, my latency test on my internet connection is 30 MS. When I play world of Chel, the best connection I can get is 53MS.
And when I play Hut or online versus it’s consistently 60-90 ms no matter what. Which is deemed fair connection

The difference in ping is due to the distance to the server you end up on. Except for Online Versus. That's peer to peer so you're not on our servers. You or your opponent are the host. For EASHL, you're on the server that meets the average pings of the players in the game. For example, mine hovers around 60ms because my club is based in the NE US while I'm in the southern US. With HUT, you should end up on the server that is closest to you, but if you're several hundred miles from that, your ping will be higher than if it was a lot closer.
How bad is the delay? Are you noticing any or are you just basing this on your ping? A 53 ms ping is still good so you're really not at a big disadvantage.

I notice a big difference. There are guys playing on eashl that are getting 10 MS or better, the guy I play with is 6 hours south of me with upload and download speeds lower then mine, and gets 35 MS consistently, him playing with the same build as me as a player skates quite a bit faster, and his reaction time is better because mine is delayed. I even notice a big difference from 53-55 ms to 45.

I also see other people are having issues with this game from other posts I’ve seen. The first two weeks of this game were great, so obviously something has changed to make a majority of players connection worse.

Nothing changed on our end that would affect connections. We did start getting complaints about this when we fixed the ping meter to show the actual ping though. What difference are you seeing between 45 ms and 55 ms? Again, that's such an incredibly short amount of time that most humans aren't going to notice it. I will agree there's going to be a difference between 10 ms and 55 ms. Like I said, I regularly play around 60 ms, but I'm also keeping up with others just fine on lower pings. I'm not saying that means there are no issues. It's just my own personal experience.
The difference I’m seeing between 45/55 MS is the amount of delay there is between when I press a button and the time my player responds to me pressing the button. And then players also can skate significantly faster then I can with the same build. I really have a hard time believing that the ping was doubled, because some games I was getting 35 Ms, and I know for a fact I wasn’t playing on 70Ms. That is above the fair connection for Ms, and my player at 35 was responding faster then I’ve ever had; and way faster then my 55 I’m getting now. So it’s hard to justify that. Something else has had to of changed.

This input delay has been brutal lately. I have 8-9ms ping to server and still experiencing it, more, closer to prime time I play. Highest ping on our team is 16ms, but game plays like closer to 100ms. Is the game chopping/slowing everyones gameplay if some of opponents has very hight ping? Sure feels like it. Or
is NHL still running on cheap AWS servers, definitely not suited for fast paced games?
