Every time we’re transparent about the reason for something people get really mad at the reason and poke holes in the logic. So we’re just not going to provide reasons anymore.
Deleted posts aside, it looks crazy sketchy to make game impacting moves and then not provide any clarity. It makes people even more skeptical about things we’re not told about; and it’s a big reason EA has lost the benefit of the doubt with most people on this board.
This is what I mean when I say people twist our words. This isn't about having holes poked in the logic. It's comments like this that add to our reasoning for limiting what we say here. We try to be more open and transparent, but that gets twisted into something that isn't at all what we were talking about. That and it invites a lot of toxic responses where people just rage at us. That's not constructive at all.
I agree we could be more clear though. I'd like to see our patch notes improve and explain the changes better.

I am not twisting your words. I’m illustrating what message that action would send.

I think it’s pathetic that They are too afraid of trolls that they can’t respond to criticism .. nhl needs to be improved … lots of ways .. mostly gameplay but alll EA focus is developing how tomake more money from the fan base ..HUT is stupid these players are dead and retired and is a sillly fantasy which is a pay fo play .. like your game shouldn’t determine the aspects of the game because of what a game Designers i belief is like I’f I call fir a passs from my d partnr then he shouldn’t Shoot towards our goalie he Should send that to wrap it back around our bords

I often respond to criticism when it's constructive. If someone is just ranting, they're probably not going to get a response. Unless it is to action their account for breaking the Answers HQ rules.
I get that you don't like HUT, but it's a very popular mode and really has nothing to do with the presentation change.
If you have video of calling for a pass and having the AI not respond, feel free to post it.

Has this been fixed yet and if not, will it be fixed for 24?

Presentation has not been updated for 23. We haven't announced what's coming in the future yet so we'll have to wait for news to come down the road.

@EA_Aljo- Can you please tell us why the presentation was taken out of the game?Looks like no Presentation updates in patch 1.6 either based on the notes. Hopefully, we’ll get the explanation you want in the NHL 24 Trailer when they are Re-add and improved all the presentation features like they falsely advertised that they were doing for 23. There is so much I’d love to say but can't, pretty much any good feelings or goodwill that I have for the game and the direction it is headed has been squashed this year.
The only constructive criticism I have is when you make an unpopular decision that virtually no one wanted or is in favour of be transparent and take accountability. At this point, there is no attempt to even pretend to care about the consumer unless, of course, that consumer buys HUT Packs. It's harsh but this is the honest-to-God truth that needs to be drilled in and even now I'm holding back and being nice. Much like so much of society basic values and communication need to be rediscovered

@grentthealienSo bizarre that the community manager ignores my question. Horrible customer service and that’s putting it mildly.

The presentation is gone in NHL 23 because it is the "new way Ea NHL games are headed,This is not a decision they took lightly on but once they take it they never going to put it back if they dont have to.Maybe they put in the option condensed and full presentation in NHL 24 if we are very lucky but we are going to complain that the full presentation was much "better and longer before NHL 23 so i think the NHL serie is dead for true NHL hockey fans who wants presentation and real feeling of the game.I am a real hockey fan played the game 30 years and always thought they every year should improve the presentation so now when it is gone i think the decision to put it back is not what they are working on.But then for me and many others hard core true hockey fans of the game are saying goodbye to this game and never pay for it again
- 2 years ago@nhluser The game is essentially just a HUT game, with other online game modes sprinkled in. All focus is one HUT and the cash cow card packs
Presentation removed = faster games, more time to buy cars packs
Also = less things to code so more time to focus on HUT events and card packs
Also = can’t have presentation bugs to fix if there is no presentation - EA_Aljo2 years ago

Presentation removed = faster games, more time to buy cars packs
Also = less things to code so more time to focus on HUT events and card packs
Also = can’t have presentation bugs to fix if there is no presentationI definitely understand how people can feel this way, but it's really not true. HUT content is not handled by the same team that works on the rest of the game. It also doesn't require daily development as there are tools that allow us to publish new items. This makes it very easy to provide daily content. Bug fixes are an entirely different issue and infinitely more complex. If we truly only wanted everyone to play HUT, we wouldn't have any other modes. We'd also lose a ton of players as the rest of the game is very popular within the community. Especially, WoC.
- 2 years ago@EA_Aljo Yes I know the teams are separate but how small is the development/bug fix team since this game has gotten so few bug fixes this year (and every other year the fixes are far and few in between, but this year takes the cake lol)
The game is already bleeding players with many offline players going back to NHL 20 (the only “good” entry in the last few years for offline) and NHL 21 (a mediocre entry that’s still broken and incomplete features but mediocre enough for EA standards)
And lots of EASHL players going back to NHL 22 because of the poor gameplay of 23
I understand NHL is a smaller market compared to FIFA, Madden etc but those games also are constantly very mixed reception.
EA has focused so much on monetization and micro transactions that the quality of many of their titles have suffered exponentially
But the focus here is NHL which is suffering even more because of the smaller market
We’ve had presentation absolutely neutered this year, and it’s been downhill especially since Ben left. Our feedback is hardly listened to, and when it rarely is, it’s given an EA twist on it that renders the “asked for feature” to be pointless, such as the custom leagues. Can’t edit anyone, still have a years cap, can’t properly edit the salary cap, list goes on, you get the idea
Long story short, we all know that the focus is on HUT, and monetization rather than quality, and of course a company won’t admit that because it affects public image - EA_Aljo2 years ago

The issues you're commenting on are also present in HUT. This isn't a case of all the gameplay focus being on the single mode that has the option of spending money in. I would agree with you if only bug fixes and feature updates were added to HUT, but that is most definitely not what's going on. There certainly is the illusion that we only care about that mode due to new items added frequently so I see how it's easy to come to that conclusion, but it's really not true. Again, creating new HUT items doesn't take away from working on the rest of the game.
There are a very high amount of false assumptions that people believe are true. I know that's also partly on us for not being more communicative. I would absolutely love to see that change as the spread of misinformation gives the highly inaccurate impression that we only care about HUT.

What rational reason would EA remove full presentation?
if you guys messed up something this year just admit it instead of lying about it.
- 2 years ago@EA_Aljo Sorry I should have specified the bugs I was talking about that aren’t actually in the HUT mode. I was talking about bugs that have been in offline mode for years, such as the broken dialogues in the be a pro modes, and failed coach challenges/inaccurate challenges, sim crashing and so on. And modes like franchise mode with sim crashes, trade value issues, CPU team logic issues like good teams blowing up rosters because of a mediocre season, the awful sim engine where a 80ovr team will claim president trophy while the 93ovr team is bottom of standings because crappy sim engine, the really bad prospect generation, including bonkers names that won’t fit nation of origin, and attributes that don’t fit the play type, the coaches issue and I mean you get the idea
All of those bugs and broken pieces are exclusive to the offline modes, and have hardly been touched in years because of the neglect
The entire game suffers from the poor AI, poor goalies, and poor defensive mechanics
That’s why offline should have its OWN AI, because we have to rely on it whereas HUT/EASHL specifically has “dumbed down” AI to prevent humans from relying on it to be good.
Offline players NEED it to be good because in be a pro you can’t control them, and franchise mode you only control 1 skater at a time and have to rely on them. I think you’ll understand what I mean so I won’t delve further into that
The offline game modes suffer because usually only bugs that affect the entire game are fixed, which is good, but very few bugs are fixed on the offline modes because they are hardly an afterthought and this compounds yearly - EA_Aljo2 years ago

Thanks for clearing that up. Definitely appreciate the feedback.

It’s extremely clear that this decision was not well received. Look at the volume of discussion across two threads on the subject (one already closed) compared to any other topic on the forum.
I’ve laid out of this for a bit since discussion dwindled down, but just want to reiterate that I’m hoping for a big response to this in NHL 24.

And once again they didn’t fix the True Broadcast camera after literally NOBODY asked for a change in the first place. It’s almost like they’re trying to aggravate their fan base.

I played NHL Hitz Pro on the weekend. For reference this game is from 2003. The presentation (intros, replays, etc) are all better then NHL 23.
- rsandersr472 years agoSeasoned Ace@Strictly60s It will certainly be interesting to see the sales numbers for nhl 24. I know i won't be buying and I'm the one that convinces my friends to buy it. If just a few hundred people are like me they will be losing a ton of money due to lack of progress/ communication. This series is dying. Hopefully another company can come in and take NHL.
- 2 years ago@rsandersr47 They deserve a response from the customers, but my fear this kind of response doing only less. NHL 24 after that all in presentation it is no option for me cause no positive developing in offline modes too.

I have to add a comment to this thread. I just started playing this game, and I was absolutely shocked to find that the presentation I expect from EA NHL games is just not there. Just a few seconds of pre-game? A quick celebration and one replay after a goal and then immediately back to the faceoff? Where is the realistic TV presentation any decent modern sports game has? Half the fun of these games for me is seeing that realistic broadcast quality, seeing a decent celebration and several replays after a goal, seeing replays of good hits, having a little time between whistles. Removing these feels like stripping the game down to its bare bones. It doesn't feel worth the money I paid for it.
If this isn't fixed in a patch, this will be the last EA game I purchase.
