That’s my fear as well. Instead of just re-adding the full broadcast as it was, they will make some improvements to condensed and then give us the option for “condensed” or “full” again, even though “full” will have less content than it used to.
Clearly there was an issue this year with Full Broadcast implementation. So they’ll go through the back door and make modifications to condensed, but “full broadcast” as it used to be will be no more I’m afraid.
They’ve slowly taken sim elements and appreciated details out in presentation since NHL 20. It started with the change from Doc and Eddie and has gotten worse
We used to have a full goalie introduction with a background on their career, like a solid 30 second piece on each goaltender. Commentary would also highlight the face off forwards for each team at puck drop. They would recap the period at the beginning of the next, highlighting what errors the team(s) have made and what they need to do to shift momentum.
Camera angles on replays used to be a medium overhead or broadcast angle as seen on TV, and in real time. Or other times they would be shot from behind the boards, just like a TV broadcast would place a camera man to record the action, The gimmicky ice level 180 degree cinematic replays are worthless to me because they aren’t authentic. That doesn’t happen in real life. And it kills the immersion of the game.
I will always state that NHL 19 was the peak of simulation presentation for this series. No other entry came close to getting the details like NHL 15-19 did as far as replicating an actual broadcast. There were earlier titles that had great pre-game intros but even they had some cinematic flair to them and/or left some things off the table. NHL 15-19 was full on broadcast quality, and even that package had so much more that could have been improved upon.
It’s just a bonafide shame that it’s all been scrapped, because I know whatever improvements they make to NHL 24 still won’t be on par or greater than what we’ve already previously had in this series.
