This game is a complete disaster until they put everything back in
The gist of my post was that the creative team behind this series is all gone, including Sr Producer Ben Ross who took this series to its peak with NHL 19 (in my opinion). This “pick up and play” approach may work for others, and that’s fine, but I’m a simulation gamer, as are many others.
The most passionate fans go out of their way to find the official discourse to express their views. And this is the second thread on this subject after the original was locked. This is a CLEAR outrage and the fans have spoken. EA chooses to cast us off as a minority, but it’s not true.
Sales will continue to diminish until EA cans this series. I was very emotionally charged and upset for months post NHL 23, but now it just feels like the weight has lifted. I can accept that this series has declined in quality and I simply won’t let it bother me anymore. I did the same years ago with Madden. I know it exists, it’s still being made, people still buy it, but it’s no longer the game for me.
Much the same sentiment for EA’s NHL series. If I ever get the urge to play simulation hockey, I’ll always have NHL 19.
At the end of the day it’s just s video game, and we are all just people. I’m sure the team behind NHL 23 wants a good game, and obviously they want a good response from the fans. But this team just doesn’t have the talent or the passion in my opinion that the former creative team did. Simple as that.
Sorry for a potentially dumb question but would this be like those new animations from the arenas, fan glow sticks, pregame "warmups" skate, and goalie preview? Because that has been gone from my game for a while now.
Gone from your game? The glow sticks and ice projections were advertised features for NHL 23, and they sporadically appeared at launch. One of the first updates made them appear more frequently before game. Do you have any of the releases patches?
This is more regarding the presentation DOWNGRADES in NHL 23. You can no longer choose “Full” or “Condensed” - the game is stuck on condensed mode, which removes post goal replays, big hit replays, goalie highlights/stats pre-game, and other cut scenes/presentation immersion. It’s basically like playing a demo release where all the presentation is just cut out of the game, choppily at that.
- @Sparky_NY1 Yeah they offered “new animations and celebrations.” And they pumped up “new game atmosphere” and then the took “full presentation” out of the game. Kinda like selling you that they’ve added the ECHL in game only to be able to use the ECHL in “play now” mode. No way to use ECHL players, teams or the league in franchise mode.
Or maybe another example, EA offers you a brand new car, only to find out, it’s the old car with a different paint job. Or they offer you a new car, but it’s at the bottom of a lake. They succeeded in sinking it. Kinda like they are trying to do subtly to this series. Or selling a car with a back up camera many loved and wasn’t broken (True Broadcast camera) only to force a recall (forced patch) and modify the camera after purchase.
Really unfair, bizarre decision making.
Ha, well, at least we don't have to hear Doc Emrick's lackadaisical "oh, a save". 😄
Doc and Eddie along with the NBC broadcast were peak TV-style presentation in this series to me.

No loss of interest here. Just feel a bit hopeless - what else can be said or done?

Im not waiting for NHL 24. There is no reason at all to remove full presentation and true broadcast camera even though I don’t use it, others do.
