Re: Reporting other players

I reject the notion of accepting low-minded and bigoted actions of others as being something that we should just not take to heart. We need to create systems that allow us to regulate each other and hold each other to a high standard of decency and respect.

If what was said to me was said to me on the ice and the ref heard it the player would be getting suspended or at the very least going to the box. I can't punch that terrible person in the face. But I would expect the platform that provides the game to be able to appropriately discipline the offender. Just like in hockey. It's a novel idea, I know.

We need to create an environment that doesn't foster terrible racist, sexist and homophobic slurs/statements by being able to provide the audio to EA. Period. I'm all for being able to chirp but there has to be a limit there. This can only be properly enforced if we can supply audio to those policing policies and maintaining the standards.

I like being able to hear the other player. Often times they may be funny. They may reveal what they're trying to do. They might be showing their frustration and I might be able to glean that I have an edge on them. It should not be on me to say I'm always going to shut off my headset. It is on them to do better and to be respectful and to think before they spew vitriol. It's like in hockey, you always have to be in control of your stick and you are responsible for what your stick does. Players should be responsible for their words and face consequences if they are harmful with them.

I couldn't agree with you more. I'd love to see a better environment where people weren't so motivated to use these comments. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot we can do about that. We don't actually control voice chat. This is done through the console's chat system. You're of course welcome to report players to us and Microsoft/Sony.

Can do, or won't do? I realize that giving us the ability to police ourselves, however slight, goes against EA's mission statement - but we are tired of the constant toxicity that happens from about 15s after the splash screen closes - you know, the one with the Zegras is socks.

By "allowing" us only to submit reports about offensive player names/team names, and your completely useless text filter, tell us how EA just doesn't care without telling us that EA just doesn't care.

EA used to be market leading and cutting edge.

Now I'll pass completely - after CP, BF2042, and now NHL23, the lack of effort is disgustingly obvious. And with your new "foray" into mobile platforms, it is more chances to screw more players with subpar titles and support. If you can't get the titles you have stood behind since EA's inception, that got you to where you are, don't expect us as consumers to support you.

There is a laundry list of stupid oversights and just plain failed execution that you have heard from the community over the last few years, that you all bluntly ignore. I'm not going to get into them, because some CM is then going to bust my chops to post a video of said stupidity. Which won't happen, because, well, YouTube and Reddit. Open them. In 30s you will see the problem. But,  EA hasn't got a clue, because they would lose their implausible deniability - which not a single user supports. A single day of testing before you slap the crap on the shiny metallic donut would be a welcome change to this stale series.

Which won't happen. If it hasn't happened in 31 years, it sure as hell won't start today.

Watch if Aljo doesn't swoop in and silence the thread.

Please keep the discussion on topic about reporting other players. If you have other issues you want to provide constructive feedback on, a new thread should be started.

As far as reporting voice chat goes, how do you propose we do that? Sure, we could have people submit recordings, but how do we tie recordings to the player that made the offending remarks? Chances are amazing we'd get people submitting recordings taken from outside our game just to try to get someone banned. It's also a privacy issue because that would probably require storing voice recordings. I doubt many people would be happy about that. That's not even a topic I'm qualified to discuss as it most likely would involve a lot of legal issues.

Text conversations need to be handled by MS/Sony since those go through their communication systems. Team and player names are handled by us since that is user created content in our game. I am all for people being held accountable for what they say, but I don't see how we could actually enforce that.
