This wouldn't be the first time people believed something was in the game that wasn't. I had the self sauce used against me many times. Rarely did it ever make a difference.

Self sauce 100% jars the A.I. D. The few frames they deal with the loose puck allows the saucer to blow past them and re-obtain it.
That said, the self sauce doesn't actually give a speed boost like others are claiming.
Regarding the skill stick, it absolutely allowed the skater to move quicker from certain angles. If a player was in DSS and instructed a 45-degree cut, the number of frames to cover that distance is LESS than if a player wasn't in DSS and the different skating animations that were triggered outside of DSS. Those animations, used to show differential in player movement as it pertains to their given trajectory, absolutely increased the number of frames to cover that distance.
It's a very subtle advantage but it was there.
At this point, it's moot, but I don't recall anyone bringing that up previously.
