Let’s do some critical thinking here and ask ourselves why this would be an included feature at launch - one that’s been around for a decade by the way - only to be removed with a patch a month later?
Maybe I’ve been too soft on EA with the benefit of doubt talk. This almost feels like a knee-j*rk reaction to the full presentation feedback debacle. “They don’t like the lack of immersion, huh? Well let’s remove the authentic True Broadcast angle too.”
There really is no viable reason why this couldn’t have been a debut camera angle addition without cutting True Broadcast. They removed this for a reason, and they have to know how exclusively it’s used by the simulation community.
They scour YouTube, Reddit, these forums, Operation Sports, and all of these communities feature franchise/sim players who broadcast their games, meticulously test sliders, and enjoy simulating NHL Hockey to the closest degree possible.
This decision has literally destroyed that. And with this being such a recent change, I cannot wait to dig into Operation Sports and Reddit to witness all the ensuing outrage in the coming weeks.
I’m honestly shocked. I bought a Series X six months ago and the first game I bought was NHL 22. In fact, it is still the only game I’ve purchased. I dabble in free play and I have EA’s GamePass (cancelling that shortly), but I essentially bought the console because I missed playing hockey. (Last played NHL 15)
I also bought a $4 copy of NHL 19 because it had such a better presentation package than the recent releases. Thank god for sliders and a physical disc copy.
I can’t stress enough how this decision has completely eliminated my interest in this series. I have spent a month on these forums, signing up originally just to read feedback on NHL 23 after I played the trial and saw presentation was completely nuked. And I was overjoyed to see the community respond (rightfully so) with passion and infuriation over these horrid decisions. I was engaged and excited that EA addressed this and noted they would be making active changes.
And now here we are - the patch has released, and we see cookie cutter pathetic intros for the remaining teams. No confirmation on the return of Full Broadcast. And despite EA telling us our feedback was loud and clear, they further decide to TAKE AWAY our True Broadcast camera angle?
There wasn’t one sane person on the development team that didn’t suggest they just simply ADD this new angle, without removing a beloved authentic feature we’ve accepted as a staple in this series for a decade?
There is something seriously calculated and tone deaf about these decisions. I’m so frustrated.
I just don’t know what to say.
