@TITAN_NHL I only play 6s so I can't speak to those traits in 3s especially against an AI goalie. Also I haven't unlocked Truculence yet but if it's similar to 22, I believe you that it's totally OP. What Close Quarters though still seems to do, just like in 22, is that it breaks the consistency where the forward will sometimes manage a shot on net at the back post even if you pretty much do everything right as a defenseman. So you could get both body and stick contact on them and it doesn't always matter just because Close Quarters boosts the shooting animation so much. It's a case of rewarding a bad play (a forced pass to a player who's clearly covered) and failing to reward the defenseman who covered his opponent very well.
I agree with you overall, though. And like I said, I'm glad 23 requires defensemen to be smarter and punishes bad positioning more strictly. That's how it should be.
Ah ya if you’re talking purely 6s then I’d definitely agree close quarters is great with human goalies. Computer goalies I find almost no benefit in 23 having it when compared to 22. The goalie on my club is inconsistent with his playtimes so half our 6s games are just 5s with an AI goalie so I just stick with elite edges on a playmaker mainly
In 3s I run a power forward with truculence and it’s almost been unfair with how OP it is. The amount of hit assistance you get is unreal, you can just hold up on the right stick and the assistance will just track the opponent for you to the point you don’t even actually need to line up the hit, and no matter what move they make the game auto corrects your position to get the hit.
How EA doesn’t understand how metas are created is mind blowing. In 3s, you can’t get any body checking penalties outside of interference… boarding, charging, elbowing don’t exist in 3s, yet all the stick checking penalties still exist, that alone is enough for the meta of truculence considering a penalty is a guaranteed goal against with a penalty shot with how easy they go in. Now add in them making stick checking harder in 23, but leaving truculence as easy as it is… that develops the meta more…. Now add in the fact that holding out the defensive skill stick, or poking slows you down, yet you can hold up on the right stick going for a body check with no movement impairing effects… even more of a meta on top of it now… like these guys developing this are delusional.
Literally all they need to do is add the same slow down penalty for mistiming your hits as you do with poking, and add body checking penalties into 3s, since the stick checking one’s are still in there, and you have a balanced 3s at that point. I mean, in the NHL once it goes to 3v3 OT, are they allowed to just charge guys, and board them from behind with no penalty? Why this decision was made to not have these penalties is beyond my comprehension
