I want to make a big post about the goalie game. I think it's clear to everyone that the goalie game is not perfect, let's try to figure out why. Animations. Animations in the game are not tied to ...
@bruanor09 once again your posts are very detailed and show the potential of this game. I have played Goalie in the past and while I agree that the Goalie animations are poor and have been for a long time. I also think goalies are in too powerful a place right now too on the human level.
Goalies can sit very deep in their net and be rewarded with save after save. They do not have to take depth into account and will sometimes even be penalized for coming out of their net. Ive seen goalies sitting on the left post and yet some how glove save a one timer heading for the top right corner of the net. Goal line sitting is very strong in this game to the point that we don’t see these snipe type goals in the high slot or these blue line d to d gold one tee shots actually go in unless tipped. I think we need to make it so butterfly is completely manual. If you dont press butterfly when the shot comes then your goalie stands to save the puck. This would make five hole, low blocker, and low glove shots viable which would then force goalies to go butterfly and then that in turn opens up the corners for snipes. We also need to make it so the goalies are forced to come out and challenge the shooter during high scoring chances, or vs tips from the point.
This all said I would love to see more animations for goalies if they were penalized more for bad positioning. More specifically animation cancels where you flick up on the RS to poke the puck away but it doesn’t work so now immediately you flick left on RS to slide to the left side and make a pad save with your stick still out in front of you from the missed poke. Goalies are constantly “recalibrating” their attempt to make the save as the scenario changes. This is very visible in penalty shots where a goalie might make three different “animations” to stop the shooter. Goalies should be allowed to cancel animations into other moves and should not just be stuck doing a animation for a predetermined amount of time.
Again I will reiterate if we turn up the cold water (goalies get new cancel animations), we also need to turn down the hot (goalies get punished and sniped on for poor positioning and depth/require more manual butterfly save inputs) to balance things out.
@hiperay yes. it is the problem of animation cancellation that is the problem. Wooden prehistoric animations that must be played to the end. There is no interruption of the animation, on the cover of the puck. There is no interruption for the reaction to the throw.
oh, if only it was still possible to manually stop the animation
about the problem of static animation. Hug posts - static. goalie does not react to the puck, to the throw, does not cover the puck This turns an important function into a decorative one
Besides, you can't in butterfly (hold R2/RT) Hug post. L1/LB does not work. You have to release R2/RT -> press L1/LB + LS -> hold R2/RT
This means that it is unrealistic to use it , plus the above problem, with non-reaction and not covering.
I would pay attention to the length of the path that the goalies body makes. This of course worsens the subsequent positioning in the goal.
in general, all these points clearly indicate that the goalie system is outdated, requires a complete redesign from scratch. All the richness of animations and features does not work as it should.
p.s. From here, crutches grow - incorrect animation work, leads to a twist of parameters. recover - should show how quickly the animation is canceled and the goalie returns to the position. 5 hole - how quickly the animation is interrupted and such a puck is played. and the like.
now - we catch what can't be caught, we don't catch what can't be missed. we need to configure the screens system. due to this, the number of goals scored should increase, the protection system will be rebuilt. The system of working with long-range throws. The system of working with one-timers, make it necessary to anticipate, and not just stay sitting.
