Talking about how stale untradeable cards become/HUT Talk

1. I don’t quite understand why the large majority of cards in HUT from 21-23 are forced to be made UT.

Thinking back to NHL19, every reward/pack that you received was tradeable for the most part. There was such a large market for cards because people were able to sell anything they pulled and pursue other cards. I remember being able to sell 99s in the millions because everyone had enough coins to buy stuff.

For the past few years, and especially this year, there’s no way to make anything tradeable. Once you make a high end card it’s stuck on your team for good. There is no way to make a tradeable Master Set Player, no way to make tradeable TOTS or TOTY cards, everything is untradeable and stuck in your collection.

I don’t understand why. It makes the game so much more boring not being able to mix your team up, and it especially sucks not being able to make cards with high value and sell them.

I also don’t get why rivals packs (which we only get 1x per week) offer you only two to three packs tradeable IN TOTAL for an entire weeks worth of playing if you want to have anything tradeable. Otherwise, the game is basically incentivizing you to keep everything untradeable.

I think team builders are a great example of cards that make no sense being untradeable. You’re investing millions worth of coins into something you can never get rid of from your collection. The market value for these would be insanely high.

  • @zphvmiek34g0 Profits is the biggest reasoning behind making more cards untradeable. If you live and breathe Ultimate Team though and do Squad Battles + Rivals and finish high chances are you will be getting some nice packs.

    I can't remember what year it was where getting great cards was quite easy and the market had like crashed where affording high end cards was cheap. IMO certain people complained about it causing cards to mean nothing so I guess EA decided to make things a bit harder.

    I understand how you feel. I play for about 2 months then building the cards I want is no longer possible without spending money. They require too many components to build things which of course is by intention sadly.

    We shall just have to wait n see how they deliver NHL 24 HUT to us and hope it will be easier to build a team.

    Hey there, @zphvmiek34g0

    Thanks for all the feedback. It's appreciated. As far as my own feedback goes, I really don't have any for this. I'm not involved in the decisions when it comes to what's tradeable or not. Basically, anything you can get for free is going to be untradeable. Which, makes sense since it would probably have a negative effect on the market if it were flooded with high level items that are intended to be received by grinding them out or unlocking through upgrades. We'll have to see what the future holds. I know a lot of people are unhappy with how many untradeable items there are.

  • Another problem is created when EA manipulates the market by flooding it with cards (often at a relatively cheap price).  This forces sellers to unload cards at, often, much lower prices than they should.  I also have an issue with Power Up cards.  I've got almost 400 untradeable Power Up cards, with nothing to do with them (my players are maxed out).  How about creating an avenue where they can be traded for packs? (much like the what we can do with XP cards after claiming a player by fulfilling all the weekly challenges).

    Just a thought...

    @gillick99

    We aren't flooding the market with cards so I'm not sure what you mean. Other than the issue with pack odds for about 24 hours last month. That wasn't intended.
