It has you create a lineup of your own players, and it even shows them when you start the game. When you're on the ice it's a bunch of random players. Anyone else noticed this?
Edit:. It only allows you to play your 2nd line. It's locked there. Also, backhand toe drag shots don't register no matter what I do.

I had a hard time with that objective too. Ironic since those were the only toe drags I could get to register last week when basic toe drag goals were an objective.
I had to dial up the difficulty to Pro to get it to count. I think the CPU plays too tentative on Rookie & Semi-pro and back off a bit so the deke doesn't register. I played about 25 games on the lower 2 settings with no luck. Even played 2 games to 10 OTs doing nothing but backhanded toe drags with no luck. Played 1 game on Pro and nailed it on the opening faceoff.

I'll look in to the issue with not having your chosen players.
For the backhand toe drag, you need to click down on the right stick and then flick the right stick down. Take a look at the controller settings under offense controls 2 for the description.

Not since October. I'm Xbox One and had a similar problem with the lineup and I posted about it on the HUT page at the time.
It was because the starting lineup I had on my HUT team was not the number 1 lines. Once I set FWD Line 1 and D pair 1 to be the starters my RUSH lineup followed suit.

This makes sense and will prob fix because I have my lined set to start with 2nd. Just a small bug I think.
