Sometimes when the opposing team is breaking the puck out of their zone, your AI defenseman on the weak side of the ice will inexplicably pinch up towards center ice even though the play is heading towards your zone. If you don't take control of your weak side D-man before this happens, you are pretty much guaranteed to be dealing with a 2 on 1 or breakaway against your goalie.
Is this a "known issue" that is currently being worked on? I can't fathom this being an intentional design decision so if that's not the case then this is a pretty major bug IMO.
What's your neutral zone setup? Have you checked your advanced strategies page (prior to searching for a game) to adjust Trap/Forecheck ?
This will affect your a.i. tendency to step up in the neutral zone and/or fall back to a more defensive position.
Can't speak for HUT but strategies don't seem to do anything in EASHL, especially in 3v3.
