Button Deke Suggestion

There seems to be mixed reviews on the one button dekes, personally I wasn’t a fan when I first heard they were coming, but have since changed my mind. I just wanted to throw out a suggestion about a possible adjustment that I made a few years ago.

I mentioned this back in NHL 20 or so, definitely before X-Factors and definitely not with one button dekes in mind, I wanted a way to separate the NHL stars from each other.

The idea was to use sort of a wrestling style system where different players, in this case most likely different player types and builds would have different dekes configured to each button. For example, there’s no point in having an enforcer with a low deking rating having the Michigan, and there should be no reason a small dangler would pull a reverse hit.

So instead of every single player having the same 4 dekes tied to the buttons, they would be different based each player type.

  • Yeah, I think if specific thresholds were met to trigger a deke that would be cool. Like you could only even attempt a lacrosse goal if you have "x" deke rating. Maybe even the skilled up x factor so that players know that they need to keep an eye on it. Offense just has too many advantages right now and this is adding to them.

  • @Beauts90 Imagine how hard it would be to memorize which players have which dekes to what buttons. It sounds great but imo it's over-complicating things. I'm still Ok with all the dekes as they are minus The Michigan being on the deke buttons.

    @KlariskraysNHL

    I was thinking that the majority of players are used to controlling one player or using the same team most of the time.

    In this scenario, I do think it would be a major improvement over what we have, but your point is more than fair for sure. I think in the grand scheme of things over-complicating this goes against what the devs are trying to do with the game.

  • Yes, I really do like the idea of some dekes being specific to builds. Like an enforcer shouldn't have the michigan like you said and rather have some kind of different deke that an enforcer would more likely use like a toe drag, chip and go around, etc.

    There is a very specific reason that those dekes were chosen to be on the button moves. Beside being more advanced of a sequence of buttons to press, all but the one hand tuck require the use of the RS being clicked in to achieve. Since this button is now mapped to be the new reverse hit, programming other dekes to the face buttons would mean it would become impossible to perform the skill moves using normal skill stick control combinations.
