All I’ve seen for the last 2-3 days are expired items. The gear seems to be turning over but I can’t buy any of it. Just want to buy some normal Bauer or CCM equipment and not clown gear.

Try completely closing out NHL 24 and then load back in to it. Let me know if everything still shows as expired. Thanks!
Purple Chrome and Blue Chrome are slightly bugged at the moment. Purple appears in the list only when it wants to and Blue can be equipped and used but appears purple in the preview.
All the fancy jerseys and such can only be used for Casual skaters - If you want your team to use team jerseys and stuff, you need to unloxk sets and select the Stock option in the menus.
When using the Custom setting, you can use any glove/stick/skate/visor you unlock/buy with coins
My son bought 3000 chel points worth of stuff yesterday and got 4 of the 13 items he bought

If they were Chel items and not any of the league branded items, make sure he checks the Chel category for type of gear it is. If it's still missing, open a case with an advisor so they can investigate this. Instructions for this can be found in the article here.
