However, for many offline players, myself included, gameplay is only half of the game. Some barely even play the games so it barely matters at all. Although not confirmed, by the sounds of it it does in fact seem like the only changes to the offline “modes” outside of gameplay will be a roster update.
Adding to that, if the game play changes don’t mean the opposition AI shoots more, then my main gripe isn’t even satisfied.
On the rare occasion I do play a game in franchise mode, I’m only playing the third period after simming the first two if it’s a close game and my goalie has already faced 20+ shots.
I can’t believe anyone at EA plays Franchise Mode for maybe more than a season or two and it’s just such a bummer because it seems like they don’t have the slightest clue about the problems with the mode. And even when we explain it to them they still don’t seem to understand the impact the issues have on actually enjoying the game.
If they do have someone working there who plays FM as religiously as several of us they’re either wildly unpopular and ignored or the quietest person on earth.
I've complained for years about how they treat the franchise mode. I literally played every game in my first season on 23, and got only a handful of powerplays for the entire season. Opposing AI teams penalties are non existent. This year's version has been the same so far, and now your AI teammates seem to take a very high amount of penalties. But I can get taken down from behind on a breakaway and nothing is still called.

Hey man 👋
I've played and still playing tons of games of 23 and get 6-7 minors per games on average and that’s on real NHL average too. It clearly depends on your sliders and how they are set up.
- 3 years ago@PernellKarl027 But you shouldn't have to go into the sliders and change them to have a properly balanced game. The game should be released with it being properly balanced.
Adjusting the sliders feels like your cheating!- Cote123 years agoNew Vanguard
I don’t mind making some slider adjustments to my liking. Remember—there was a time we didn’t have them and couldn’t change anything.
The problem now is that the base game is so far beyond any semblance of the sport, and the sliders are like unstable chemicals, so it doesn’t matter what we do. And it’s so frustrating because my expectations are so low.
Need to clear the defensive zone? I’d just like to—I dunno—flip the puck out. You know, like you see in every single game of hockey ever.
Game is on its hardest difficulty? Gee, that’s going to be quite the challenge—oh nevermind, just skated right past that 92 overall defenseman. That’s okay, great play from my speedy winger, I’m sure it won’t be easy to do it ag—oh just did it again.
I say this all the time: just.. watch.. hockey. Make the game look like THAT. Is that such a crazy thing to have your offline base gameplay replicate? Guys. GUYS. Watch the AI clear the puck out of their zone with that little fart-of-a-clear. HOW is this acceptable to anyone??? What am I looking at?? Why are we cutting away to Fortnite celebrations after a goal when we could be putting more time into making the game FEEL more like hockey?
I feel like DiCaprio in Shutter Island. Because when you think about it, I am the crazy one. Crazy to keep getting suckered into having hope for a solid offline experience.
