Reason is EA. The NHLPA is why they can’t add players who aren’t in the game, but EA is the reason the rosters aren’t up to date.

He’s a part of the Blackhawks when you start a franchise mode and previous versions of the game have had drafted players at launch even before the regular season started.

@Beauts90 There’s a lot to criticize EA, but this is the standard procedure for all sport titles. Typically a week or so after all teams have played a few games; the rosters are updated, and players who have played their first shifts are allowed to be represented in game

Agreed. This is 100% on EA. If it was an NHLPA issue he wouldn't be in the game at all.
Release a damn roster update already, EA. We are a week into the NHL season now and the "current" downloadable roster was released on September 28th ffs...
