Re: NHL 24 another year they dont listen to offline community

@ozhockeyfan

I know for sure they increased the creation slots available for players and teams, so we are able to create way more players and teams this year. Creation zone in WoC got an update because they decided to charge money for cosmetics, although I would be shocked if some of it doesn’t carry over offline. I also personally think there is 0 chance that transactions in WoC remain for cosmetics only in the next few years to come.

While I know the dev team and resources are nowhere near the size for FC or Madden and offline is nowhere near as popular as online, at the end of the day this is still a billion dollar company making an officially licensed game for a billion dollar sports league.

It’s not like this is a skipped patch (like so many in the last few years) where we might only have to wait a few more weeks, this is a full priced AAA game that put “updates on hold” for an entire year. I’m pretty sure that’s the exact definition for “not caring about offline players” and could further diminish a dying player base for offline modes further regardless of what’s planned in the next few years.

@goaliestriker63, I will echo  exactly as @kyl_35  said. There’s never been anybody from EA on here that actually plays the offline modes, so it’s extremely hard to bounce ideas off them and have any meaningful engagement.

    I mentioned the reasoning behind focusing on online modes in my post on the previous page. TL:DR, we needed to prioritize this due to the majority of the playerbase being in online modes. There are plans to improve offline modes in the future.

    I really appreciate the upfront information; it’s much better than the “wait and see” we had been getting prior to the 24 reveal. It’s a breath of fresh air. That doesn’t mean we’re not gonna be mad about it, though—just less mad than we would have been if we had to find this out for ourselves after buying the game.

    I’d personally love if the decision makers could see some of this feedback and maybe look into switching that 3-year plan in to an NHL 25 plan, but I have no control over whether that happens or not so I’m going to need to continue to vent until I get it out of my system.

    To add to that, we also have no idea if this 3 year plan includes adding anything we’ve been begging for. For all we know it’s just a lift and shift the whole mode to GM Connected as-is and then calling it a day. Obviously you can’t promise features that could be happening 3 years from now, but there’s still a lot of ambiguity about whether or not we’ve been understood.

    It's way too early to get in to what's coming in the future for offline modes. I think it's a pretty good indicator you all are being heard when the person responsible for these decisions directly addresses it.

    @EA_AljoI agree the communication is going in the right direction. As far as I know he’s only directly addressed GM Connected being something a lot of people want (I’m not one of them), and when asked directly in an interview about Be A Pro and Franchise Mode said that neither were a priority for the year and that there’s a 3 year plan for them. Heard is one thing, understood is another. It’s great that there’s a plan in place, we just don’t know if we’ll actually like it.

    Throughout the run of 2022 one of the main FM asks was for more freedom of customization. 2023 came out and we had more customization options taken away…

    Us in 2022: the game doesn’t improve prospects or regress veterans fast enough and frequently prospects have attributes that don’t match their type/position. We’ll happily fix this on our own if you let us edit players within FM.

    NHL 2023: we fixed none of that, didn’t add the ability to edit players, and also took away your ability to edit your own team strategies.

    @EA_Aljo If the only change to franchise mode this year is the creation zone being opened up completely (as a result of what was announced for CHEL) I'd definitely consider upgrading to this one from 22, but gameplay and presentation would have to be pretty perfect to be worth 90$CAD again.

    What should be considered is that, yes, a majority of your player base are online-mode players. But it’s been so long since there has been an offline mode that has met expectations that online modes are really the only ones that are seemingly worth playing right now. It’s kind of a catch 22 but I think it’s worth taking into consideration. If online modes are going to remain very much the same year-over-year, the reasoning of ‘focusing on online modes’ doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense from a community perspective. Love the gameplay and looking forward to seeing what the full game offers but that’s just my 2 cents. I do appreciate the engagement.

    Again, it's too early to discuss what's in store for offline modes in the future. All I can tell you is that the feedback on this is being heard.

    @EA_Aljo I still have no idea if anything I said was understood and I don’t know how to make it more clear. I don’t want to discuss features we may or may not see in 2027.

    I'm not sure if what I'm saying is being understood either. We have absolutely no details on anything whatsoever regarding what changes are instore for offline modes within the next 3 years. All I can tell you is that feedback is being listened to. If you're asking for specifics, I can't give those. If that's not what you're asking, please be more clear.

    @EA_Aljo Yeah, nope. Not asking specifics. Asking for more urgency than a three year plan. Asking for more engagement on those lists people put together than having them passed on (which is already great), to make sure the ask is understood before it’s passed along.

    A good example would be last year or the year before. I mentioned how the opposition AI doesn’t shoot nearly enough and you asked for clarification on it. More of that would be great! Without it I worry that we’ll see changes that on the surface look like what’s being asked for, but ends up not meeting expectations… like the custom franchise. A fantastic idea that missed the mark in the details.

    @kyl_35

    Thanks for clearing that up. The feedback provided on the forums is highlighted in regular reports that I personally create. The team also keeps an eye on the forums. This doesn't mean that everything requested is going to be addressed though.

    I’d like to know why the mark is missed so often when it comes to adding/updating offline modes. Obviously I’ll never get an answer, still curious though.

    Not sure if it’s miscommunication, lack of time, difficult programming or just wrong creative direction.

    It sounds like the reality of the situation is we are in for another FULL year discussing things we want to see in the offline modes without having the slightest clue what direction it’s going in.

    I personally don’t want to get more into anything until after we have all of the info about NHL 24.

    I know they said they didn’t make any major changes or focus energy on this years game, but how much energy would it take to fix the current bugs we had and just opening up the customization options we asked for?

    Although I wouldn’t be super pleased with only those changes, at least it’s something and I’m sure most would actually be satisfied with that.

    @Beauts90 I couldn’t agree more. Despite my posts I’ve actually been semi-optimistic about possible minor tweaks to FM, lol

    @EA_AljoThis year everyone should have full control over roster editing/ anything creation zone, I can't see any excuses why. I remember when roster sharing was added, seemed pointless in many ways since you cant fully edit anyone's appearance/ you have to start over in game modes just to make someone from LW to RW (or both) Nothing has changed for possibly two games now.

    Are offline rosters used in any of the online modes? (I've pretty much never played online lol) if so that'd be a good sign that maybe it was the only thing past gameplay/ presentation that was touched for the offline portion this year. In that interview Mike never actually said "there will be no changes to offline modes whatsoever" so there's hope I think.

    Does anyone know if there will be another deep down trailer drop next week for NHL 24?

    @20Portugal04

    I haven’t seen anything announced yet. The last couple of years the deep dives for the offline modes happen just before the release, so beginning of October.

    Haven't heard anything but usually they start to ramp up those deep dive trailers once the playtest finishes - which I assume is to give them time to address the data/feedback of the game before talking about it more. I'd guess it starts around 3rd week of September for any offline and presentation trailers and then as it gets closer to October, you'll see the deep dives for online modes.

  • hello in my personal opinion these nhl recent games are heavily lacking atmosphere .. something that was addressed in ea fc and fifa 23 after like a decade they have decided to work on atmosphere ... such as dressing room cutscenes tunnel cutscenes also interviews with managers or newsreporters interviewing players.. half time cutscenes... signing new player cutscenes...gym cutscenes after winning season trophy bus parade in town also more players avards cutscenes such as in ea fc there will be that ballon dor cutscenes new also........... plus all cutscenes should not be too short like current pre game cutscene that one where we see light show on the ice that is like 5 seconds it is so short... i wont be buying nhl 24 i am not a hater of series but when i put down on table ea fc 24 and nhl 24 and i ask myself where can i have better and more fun experiece on ea fc career mode or on nhl 24 franchise mode ? answer is very simple ea fc 24 is obvious winner... i would love to buy nhl 24 but it will be worthless cz franchise mode will be almost same atmosphere (cutscenes) just does not exist in nhl for some odd reasons .. fifa ea team used to be the same through whole ps4 era they havent done a lot but when next gen came out i do not know if they woke up or what but they started to work on atmosphere... after like a decade 😄 so please do that too for nhl i want to buy it and play it i am not ultimate team player and i dont buy packs i know that ea makes more money of it and so that they prioritize it but if ultimate team makes big cash some franction of it could be dipped into hiring people to improve offlne experience too.. not everyone is able to spend on UT plus me for example i am working i have split days off betweens shifts i am so tired to be good in nhl and to challenge people online for me is more than enough to play offline career mode for example just to enjoy some good hockey... so please work on atmosphere or at least just look at ea fc 24 and copy these type of cutsenes over to nhl 😄
