The journey begins sniper bug

I’ve just entered my second season of BAP as a sniper and I have got the cutscene for The Journey Begins - Sniper from my coach where he discusses the storyline. This storyline is to unlock the X-Factor abilities Beauty Backhand and Close Quarters. However, I can never get challenges for both abilities to trigger as if I choose the option for both, only Beauty Backhand is activated and Close Quarters is listed as inactive. If I choose the dialogue option for just Close Quarters, Beauty Backhand will be locked. What is causing this? Is there a way around this?
