What control buttons are used to take faceoffs in NHL 24

You have always needed to know the counters. This hasn't changed in many years.

From NHL 23 to NHL 24, there is a huge change. You used to actually be able to win faceoffs straight back just by timing it. Now you have to do a bunch of other crap. 

What new rules? It's probably been at least 10 years since faceoffs changed.

The new faceoff rules are idiotic. I just want to win at least 1 faceoff in non-rookie mode that doesn't involve a full handbook of tips on how to do it. 

I’ve been playing EA NHL for 7-8 yrs now. I’ve never had an issue with FOs. I haven’t won a single FO since NHL 24 dropped. It’s irritating as hell.

Yes, but this is dependent on which grip your opponent is using. Pulling straight back will attempt to win the puck back, but if your opponent recognizes you're going to do this, they may stick lift or tie you up. The stick lift is done by moving your right stick either clockwise or counter-clockwise from 6 - 12. It depends if you choose a forehand or backhand grip. There are YouTube tutorial videos for faceoffs you might want to take a look at.

Okay... once you take control of the right stick, do you pull it down when the ref drops the puck? I have done this numerous times and have never won a face-off. Never had a problem with NHL 22 or 23. Please advise, and thank you!

You can see the faceoff controls in the controller settings. You use the right stick to choose a grip and win the faceoff.
