Accidentally passing/ turning over puck with one touch passing

 I press R2 and down to swap to the player close to a puck so I can clear the zone and I pass it off the boards and keep their cycle going,m or I Ice the puck constantly, Why am I able to input both a pass and player switch? 

Being able to control two players at once is a headache and should be an option, not a forced gameplay decision, Tapping the pass button once if I need to quickly pass it out makes more sense if i'm controlling one player, not a whole team. I can tap R2 twice.

Why do I need to rely on the CPU when I've seen my players constantly ignore the puck. The same button to throw the puck to anybody on the ice shouldn't be the same button I also aim to select a player.
