I would love a camera angle that is DIRECTLY looking down at the ice. Sometimes, I'll be trying to stand in a passing lane and a puck will get by me and I'll be like, what the heck? I was right in the lane! Then I'll look at the replay and I was actually not quite in the lane, I only thought I was because none of the camera angles are angled perfectly straight down, but are all tilted to some extent.
Not a huge gripe or anything, but would be a good option to have.
For goalies, I typically use either fixed or high. I like how the high camera angle allows me to keep track of both the puck carrier and my goalie simultaneously. This helps me with my positioning a lot.
The issues with high are that the fov seems quite low, so if the puck is in the corner, you have no idea if there's a guy waiting off to the side, somewhere around the faceoff circle opposite to where the puck is. This is important information because it can change how you approach a play. If the puck carrier is skating in towards my net, and there's an open man on the opposite side, I might try to ready myself for a one-timer from that side. If there's no one there, I know I can just focus on the puck carrier and cover short side. This is information I don't have using the high camera angle.
As for the fixed camera angle, I find it gives an excellent fov that allows me to see just about every inch of the ice 99% of the time while also being closer to the action. It's also a very steady camera angle that doesn't move constantly.
My main issue with this camera angle is that, unlike the high camera angle, fixed doesn't allow me to watch my goalie and the puck carrier simultaneously. I have to follow the puck carrier and look down momentarily to check my positioning. It's just a short glance for sure, but it can be just long enough to miss a pass and lose track of the puck.
It would be great to have some level of customization for the camera angles, though I'm sure that would need to be carefully thought out as to keep framerates consistent as well as not to expose parts of the arena that I would assume aren't rendered since they're not meant to be seen.
Overheard looks straight down. It sounds like the issue is how zoomed out it is.
Have you tried holding down the button that switches where the focus is? Doing this allows the screen to size dynamically to fit both your player and the puck on-screen. I haven't tried this as a goalie though so not sure it works for that.

Overhead is the closest to the camera angle I'm looking for as a skater, but it's not looking directly down. The camera is actually located behind the player and tilted in the direction of the player. What I'm talking about is having a camera angle that is more or less directly above the player that looks straight down.
As for goalie, the only camera angles I was talking about in regards to goalie were fixed and high. The trick you're talking about where you press select and it refocuses your camera works fine for skaters, but it's not useful for goalies.
Also, while I have your attention, one other thing that I think really needs changed about the high/low goalie camera angles is how the angle changes when the puck is behind the net. When the puck is behind the net, the camera tilts down and completely obscures the front of the net, so goalies have no idea if there's open players in front that they need to be aware of. This could be fixed by having the high/camera angles zoomed out a bit when the puck goes behind the net.
