Generated Player Names suck, and here's why
A while back, when editing the databases of NHL 20, I came across a breakthrough in regards to how generated player names work, and why teh names generally suck.
The names are separated into banks; Canada, Quebec, Czechia, Slovakia, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Finland, and United States. If a generated player’s country isn’t any of these, the game defaults to the American name bank, hence why a player from Norway can be named Marshall Mathers. Yes, this actually happened to me once, in the previously mentioned NHL 20. I had an entire Twitter thread detailing the games in which this was a thing, dating all the way back to NHL 07 on the Xbox 360, but I wound up deleting all my accounts there because Elon Musk sucks. However, I did take screenshots of examples of this.
The way I would fix this is simply to borrow the way they work in FIFA, as NHL has a history of borrowing from either that series or Madden. If that's not possible, then at least add in new banks to accomodate those regions.
I included screenshots from NHL 07, NHL 13, NHL 14 (where I edited the banks in the hopes of fixing some of this), NHL 15, NHL 16, NHL 20, NHL 24, and NHL 25 to show all of you just how long this has gone unnoticed. Yep, this has even been an issue during this series supposed "golden age". It's been nearly 20 whole years since NHL 07 released, and this is STILL an issue.
EA, if you do not fix this, then release it on PC so that the fans can do all the work you refuse to do.
