I think it’s as simple as the community is really small and the high level players play the most. It’s just the odds. The matchmaking times are already really long so adding a strict skill filter would make it take hours to find games.

I was just about to say this. The reason you match up against players with a far higher rank is because if we restrict that, it creates a much smaller pool of available matches which would make it take longer to get into a game.

No. The filters were removed as part of what is supposed to be improved matchmaking.
