The only hint this was not NHL '24 or '23 was the score clock. I did see a few reaction animations and noticed the skill-based one-timer shadow appearing under players.... but presentation, lighting, textures.. everything looks identical.

So it wasn't just me.
That was really underwhelming and didn't really highlight any of the new features at all. And it looks like the goalies are still going to be giving up terrible squeakers if that NJ goal is anything to go by.
I get that it's a marketing stunt and not a proper gameplay demonstration, but I'm at a loss for how anyone could look at that and think it was something that would get people excited about the game.

The game looks similar to previous versions. That happens pretty much every year. I think the changes with gameplay are going to be where it feels like a new game though. I'm looking forward to you all getting your hands on it Friday.

Even the NHL stars you guys showed off were complaining about the game. It's already over before it started

Tbf they didn't look like they had played the game much in the past. Luckily for them they are much better at the real game.. lol
Only disappointment for me is we still have the same UI graphics. For me I'd expect them to be different. Its small things like that make it feel like you've actually bought a new game.
Watching someone else playing is hard to judge how the gameplay is. Its something you have to try yourself.

There was nothing shown in this other then A streamer and 3 dudes who clearly dont know how, and dont want to play this game. I understand you are hammering down we need to play it to feel the difference. Honestly if it was played by people who cared, those things might have been shown off as they would have went out of their way to do those things. I dont care that things look similar, its hockey, but this gameplay was not good, and the scoreboard without team logos and just a big EA logo looks childish and egotistical, The EA logo is already everywhere.
Was this meant to replace the presentation Deep dive?

That's the thing, if this was just one of many videos showing off the game, it'd be more forgivable and more of a mass marketing video to catch people's eyes cause of the Hughes' brothers. But it's not one of many. It's the only gameplay we've gotten so it's being treated like a deep dive when that probably wasn't the intent.
The marketing for this game has just set it up for failure. Even the franchise deep dive, by far the best piece of content we've gotten, showed an extreme reliance on the conversation mechanic, which is probably one of the worst mechanics in the game the past couple years.

Yea we understand that it’s going to be similar. However, that video was just very underwhelming. 2 soft goals that the goalie couldn’t save. Especially that one from a weak backhand animation - very frustrating. I guess we’ll just have to see what the little differences are with L2 and some animations. If scoreboard was the same as 24 I wouldn’t have known the difference.
