The Record Book is often wrong, the player stats should be accurate. That said, I'm not sure which triggers the ceremony.
ok so, UPDATE: after simming the rest of the season + playoffs and 35 games into the 33-34 season, Matthews tied Ovi's 1.029 goals and the correct number is shown on both the Record Box page and the Player Stats page (not sure when the Record Box page updated).
For the record tying goal there was nothing special on screen, and Matthews was celebrated by the bench.
For the record breaking goal absolutely nothing, no cut scene, no celebration, zero, not even a replay, so i guess the cut scene is just for breaking Gretz record.
