Post Guidance and Etiquette, Thanks Mods

I have seen more than a few posts that seem to have been written by children. When posting on forums here are some simple etiquette and guidance tips.

First off, don't use all caps. This conveys shouting and anger. Even if this is how you feel. The moment that you convey that in your post, it loses the impact. It quickly goes from a suggestion post or sharing your feelings post, to a temper tantrum post. It's childish. The devs are not going to listen to angry rants.

Second, make sure not to include *bleeps*. I mean really? Why does this even need to mentioned? If you know that the word can't be used in the forum, then don't use it, and don't use alternatives. This is a good way to be ignored, and an even better way to not be taken seriously. It distracts from whatever points you are trying to make, the same way that using all caps does. Anger does not get points across, it detracts.

Third, being completely negative is never going to be listened to. Don't come out and say that a game is garbage or trash. Bringing up everything that is wrong about a game and then never swinging back around to bringing up pros, just seems like you are never going to be a customer, so why would they listen to you? So, say you want banner raisings brought back into the game, or more improvements to franchise mode. Think about it. If you mix in positives about the mode, are you going to get the devs paying more attention? Yes. What improvements were made? Well they started using some real coaches, positive. They have started doing some roster updates beyond trade deadline and they never used to, positive.

If you have a point or multiple points that you are trying to convey, think about that point/s, and focus on those. How am I going to be best conveying this in a manner that will actually get read? What can I do to support my statements? Is anything that I have typed coming across in manner that I am not intending? Are there distraction?

Think about your intended audience. Are they going to read it and be able to use or agree with what you have said. The devs are looking for constructive feedback, so if all you are doing is insulting them, you will never reach them. This includes not using a bunch of shorthand that not everybody understands. Like IRL, means In Real Life, but not everyone knows that, so use the words, not the letters.

If you are complaining about a glitch or a "cheat" being exploited. When you play, try to get some video. This can be a challenge, as I don't think about recording my games. However, it is something that the devs need to understand what you are talking about.

Don't insult our mods or the EA team on the forum. Our mods do a thankless job. EA_Aljo and I may not see eye to eye on every point, but they do a fantastic job on here, and they don't hear that enough. Be kind. Get your point across without disrespecting or insulting them. You can disagree without going full rage/child mode.

I could add more I am sure. So if anyone wants to add please feel free, including our mods. I am a published author in real life, so I understand about messages and trying to capture your audience, but I can get wordy, and I apologize for that. Thank you to the EA team on here.

  • They copy and paste the same game every year. It is a thankless job because they make us all feel that they do not care. They have monopolize sports games and the no longer have to compete to take our money. Then they try to streamline things like preset classes that use perks no longer available in normal loadouts. I assume they are trying to boost numbers of players and all it does is make the game unbalanced. They take our comments and criticisms and change nothing. If you want disney style forums then just don’t do them at all. I love NHL and being able To play with up to 5 friends online, but the standards have dropped so low that even the smallest thing is an improvement and thats not a good thing. Of course there will always be people to complain about the game, but that does not mean you write them off and say they are acting like children. This is exactly why so many gaming companies are now laying off most of their workforce. Take the criticism and make a better game. I focus mostly on CHEL, but you have a ton of people on here with good advice and fixes and it simply is not being listened to. Stop telling passionate people to be nice. We paid for a service and feel we got shafted thats it.

Hey there. Can you give me some specifics besides not liking the pre-built characters that you'd like to see change?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Also, really appreciate the kind words.

You're bringing up some excellent points. The messages that are more of a rant, especially filled with swearing, all caps, blanket statements, etc, are largely ignored, if not removed. I absolutely get the passion this community has and that is wholeheartedly appreciated. However, letting that passion boil over to a rant full of rule breaking comments isn't going to make its way to the dev team. It's fine if you're negative, but be constructive. If you're goal is to trash the game and EA, there are other venues for that. That's not what our forums are about. We want your feedback as this helps shape the game.

Our forums give you a direct channel to us. Take advantage of that. Just be cool and respectful with your feedback and you stand a far better chance of being heard. I do regular reports where I gather feedback directly from these forums that I send over to the team. All those comments that have to be removed, or aren't being constructive, generally don't get seen by the people you're reaching out to.
