I use the slider to turn my attribute effect up to 10.

This is what I do as well!
I sometimes change stuff with body checks (how much speed and size matters) and also tune the penalties a bit. But I usually do that in the beginning of the game, and the more comfortable I get with the game, I find I don't think it matters that much. The only thing I make sure to always change is the attribute effect 10/10.

Yes, I turn up the hitting and speed. I attempt to reproduce NHL game stats to the best of the games ability. To that end I play 6 or 7 minute periods and have aggression set all the way down to 1 out of 100. Even then I still average over 3 penalties per game per team. I also have to set the goalie abilities to 90 or the scores are 7-5 every game. The only way to get goalie stats that aren't horrible is to turn it all the way up. Even then the goalie play needs to be improved. If I actually play the games it is not uncommon for my "starter" goalie to produce equal or better stats than my "elite" goalie. I won't waste money on "elite" goalies any more.

I had always played with default settings but since NHL21 I’ve always had to mess with them to try and fix the cpu teammate AI

I like messing with sliders, but i have a set limit. I want the game to be difficult while I am building my team, and then as i improve the team, then they start to compensate for the sliders being low/high. I really like having my roster make the difference and not the sliders.
