This is intended. We had a lot of feedback that the game was too fast. Now, there are no speed boosts with superstar and zone abilities. This should help with more authentic hockey play rather than run and gun strategies based on speed.

It's a good change. Less track meet, more hockey.

CHEL: Thank god you changed the game speed lower. Its much more realistic and you really need to do something on the ice. I think the game could be even more slower.
Smallest players are still fast. Smaller players should have worse balance and also should not be able to hit so effectively. And if small player get hitted then that should effect to his stamina.
I was reading a comment that defenders speed is lower than forwards. If it is, then it should be fixed. They should have same speed options. EDIT: clearly this last part isnt true, thank god

That last bit isn't true bud. That was a pet hate of mine last year, forwards flying past defenders like they are statues. Checking is far more forgiving and the forwards on the puck are definitely slower than someone without the puck. So much more balanced than it was before.

I honestly hope this stays. This speed currently feels authentic. I hated previous years of the game having a 4th line grinder just speed by a fully energized defenseman and do a quick forehand backhand goal. Of everything I’ve watched I’m SO looking forward to playing it

I think a lot of the changes are positive. The game is noticeably slower but I think that's a good thing. The new "avoidance" animations are a great addition. The removal of elite edges from custom builds was also a great decision.
It might seem trite, but my biggest complaint so far is the skating sounds. I hope that you are receiving feedback on that because it's is very distracting and unrealistic, and that's something I suspect could be fixed easily. I haven't seen much improvement in terms of the AI in CHEL, but at least it isn't worse than last year. - RatedxPGxEnigma1 year agoSeasoned Ace
It should be exactly one tick faster but it functions better slower than faster. please don't take this comment as meaning make it fast like NHL 24 WE DONT WANT THAT

Game speed is much nicer this way!

Guy can't make his 4ft 100lb sniper with 95 speed/accel hunchback skater anymore to score 1 move breakaways and is triggered lol
This video demonstrates that EA's current speed setting is as near perfect as you can get:

Thanks for that! What a great post.
Someone in the comments of that Reddit post brought up the (correct) observation that skaters in the EA NHL games don't use crossovers nearly as much as they would naturally in real life. I wonder why that is. You can notice it when looking at the side-by-side footage of the in-game Makar and IRL Makar.
It's not the MOST important thing in the world but it would be cool to get ultra-realistic-looking crossovers eventually.
