WoC desync issues?

Playing WoC with a fiber optic connection is really cheesy in 95% of games in Helsinki, Finland. The EA server shows pings of 1-10ms in games. It feels like the game is starting to compensate for the opponent's possible poorer network connection. The players on your own team are moving in the cheese.

Very bad input delays: Really long delays between the controller and what is happening on the field <1s

Strange player energy consumption: Sometimes one skate to the opponent's area consumes the energy of your own players to almost zero. Sometimes even if you let the player stand still on the field, the energy will not recharge at all. Is this the famous desync problem that is widely known?

Hits not working:
opponent player miraculously teleports away from underneath. Reverse hits with the backside (arse) first fly the player's defender in front of the player in the direction of arrival by several meters. WTF??

The situation is starting to be hopeless and it is no longer worth considering buying the next game. Too bad, because when the game works, it's a really great entertainment! For us, all the problems started when the team switched to fiber. With a mobile connection, the game works "normally" at times, but large fluctuations in ping cause huge desync problems at times.

Is NHL26 (WoC) really doing something to improve the gaming experience on fiber connections?

I’ve noticed exactly the same issues. The game works occasionally, but most of the time it’s incredibly laggy – even though my ping shows under 10ms consistently. I’ve even tried to “worsen” my connection on purpose just to make the gameplay somewhat tolerable.

The game clearly desyncs. For example, I tested a regular online game using my fiber connection – ping showed 1ms, but in reality it felt like 100–200ms. Then I played with a mobile connection (where ping actually was 100–200ms), and weirdly enough, the game felt smoother and more consistent. That really tells you something is off.

I’m not surprised EA is doing nothing about this. All the value promises have already been broken. “Positioning matters” – yet even with max defensive awareness, standing in front of a pass with your player’s face directly toward the puck – it still clips right through you like you’re invisible.

The same intro cutscenes in Be a Pro have been there for over five years. I was already skeptical about buying NHL 25, but like a fool, I believed the marketing again. Now, me and my friends have firmly decided not to buy the next NHL game – we’ve simply had enough of broken promises and half-finished products.

Now I’m completely sure my time with EA NHL games is done – and clearly I’m not alone, based on the player numbers compared to last year.

All in all, I’m extremely disappointed with NHL 25 and how the organization treats its players.

Hello. Can you send me a private message with your Xbox gamertag/PSN ID? I'll try to look into this. Currently, I'm not seeing many reports. Normally, if there is an issue, we hear from everyone at once. Did you go through any of the troubleshooting steps here as well as contact your ISP to see if they are noticing any issues?

    Thanks for reply

my gaming experience doesn't suffer even though the game has a lot of different small bugs, but if the game core is broken in online gaming: it kills the whole idea of the gaming experience. It feels like the game development has been too focused on micropayments with various things and the core development has been left out.

That's why we sometimes see skating moose, aliens and beavers in club games. We don't want to be part of such a development.
