HUT Catch 22

Went on the PS5 today to try out the 10-hour timed trial through EA Play.  What kind of crap is this that you have to win games with a trash team before they let you spend your earned coins to actually upgrade your team?  Like you can't even access the auction house to improve your team until you jump through hoops first.  It's bad enough that you get matched up with everybody's day-one stacked teams and cannot possibly compete because your 75 overall players don't follow your controller's input correctly.  You can't skate, turn, pass, shoot, or anything because your ratings don't let you, but you are forced to win games against stacked teams in order to have the right to use the WHOLE game that you paid for.

I bet ya that EA wants you to spend money on packs to remedy this, don't they?  I'm sure if you hand over your credit card every day you'd probably have a better time.  Everything about this franchise has become a dumpster fire with the greed and laziness.  NHL 24 roster update 70 dollars please.  If you want some "free" packs to get you started 100 dollars please.

I will be refunding my EA Play and PS Plus subscription and they can stick this game somewhere dark.  I am so disappointed in the path EA has taken since NHL 15.  The old games were so much better with the better gameplay and actual REAL lobbies.

RIP NHL

This has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with buying packs. This is done to help make sure legit accounts are using the market. It doesn't take long to earn access. This is normally done quickly by anyone that is legitimately playing the game.

I'm just frustrated because I'm trying to get a good gauge of the game within my 10 hour trial, and being two hours in already with a scrub team I have not been able to access the auction house with my earned coins to improve my team yet.  It's like how many hours do I have to waste before I can actually get a good feel for what the game feels like for normal players.  I had to fight with that issue last year for NHL 24 also.

It feels like it's getting harder and harder to "just play now" with each new release.  I used to get packs at the start of each year based on how much I played the previous year's game, but I don't remember getting those for at least a few years now even though I have been playing it every year.  That used to be great to get me started with at least a competent gold team, but now it's way too grindy.

Unfortunately, I don't know how long it takes. You'll have to keep playing. I earned quite a few players just from Wildcard alone. Have you played through that yet?

Not the Wildcard I haven't so much.  Seems really short, and I'm not really sure what the difference is in playing it other than it's a shorter length game.  I did figure out that I could play offline to earn access to the auction house though, but I still don't like having to "earn" my way into it.  It would be better if EA gave you more than a 10-hour trial also, or at least make it similar to a "day one with game pass" kind of thing.  That seems to be the subscription model of the future anyways.
