I get where you are coming from, and there's plenty of us who'd like to see that too. I really don't know what the problem is. I suppose they would need to turn achievements/trophies/whatever off so that editing stuff doesn't ruin those. Other than that, as far as I'm concerned, in an offline mode that doesn't affect anyone but you or me when we play it, we should be able to enjoy it the way we want to and adjusting things when necessary.
One of my biggest problems is if I start a franchise now, and later during the season we learn that Connor McDavid (just one example) he will sign for XX for Y years. In the game we still need to live with seeing him sign some weird underpaid contract where he makes less than 10 million dollars per season. It would also help to be able to nerf (or move) players who retire IRL, instead of dealing with a 44 year old Crosby who play until 45 sometimes. I mean, he might, but probably not for 2-3 different teams that are not the Penguins.
I really hope something happens with this, even if it's been requested ever since it was removed. It would certainly be a quick fix that would buy the dev team more time to figure other things out instead of us requesting features to be fixed while they work on new features or fixing other things that needs fixing. This would make it instantly more enjoyable!
