Mercy rule?
Can we start looking into a mercy rule for future games? Hear me out here: I think a 5 goal mercy rule should be implemented into this game. I know it would kind of break the immersion but I think in online gaming it is necessary. Five is a fair number that it would appease both the Online HUT and EASHL modes. Games when played out take roughly 20-30 min per game and sometimes, due to the lower player base, can be lopsided in skill level. For HUT this would be more geared towards games like HUT Champs then Ranked but would still work towards lopsided ranked games. I think implementing a system that would force the game to end following a 5 goal lead would be fair in that it would speed up games and potentially make more people available in queues which therefore makes queue times lower. It would allow the losing player to get to the next game while getting their rewards for at least playing the game as opposed to having to stay until the end in a brutal game of getting crushed for 15-20 mins. Being forced to play the game may even deter them from playing more afterwards. The other aspect for online EASHL is the human mentality and convenience behind it. No one wants to click that quit button when they are in those lopsided skilled games because one its a physical admittance of defeat which lowers that morale while at the same time now by quitting, you are having to (instead of being sent back to the dressing room for the next one), remake the dressing room, invite all the people back in and only than being able to search. All of this is trying to happen after just getting absolutely destroyed by the opposing team and now those dejected thoughts are running through and you may decide "you know what never mind, I think I am done after that one", thus again lowering the players playing. And you know what yes! It is possible to come back from a 5 goal lead... but in my mind, if you are giving up a 5 goal lead, that is your own fault in the first place and you had your chance. Im sick and tired of having to level up my club to trick out our uniforms/arena/ect. The chel coin system is already in place to save up and purchase the equipment we want for our players outright. Why cant we have this same system for our club customization? Im sick and tired of having to unlock the same stuff by "leveling up" every season. Honestly, we dont play the game to "unlock features." We play the game to play video game hockey. Thats it, thats the hook. Even stock uniforms. Why have me select my favorite team (I know its for the menus) and then when our club does get stock uniforms in a bag pull, we hardly ever get anything from our favorite team lol. Like I said, I'd rather see a store and let us use chel coin or club coin or whatever, and purchase the arena/logos/uni's we want. Just a general statement/complaint but they really need to give goalies like an overall 5-10% increase on the standard attribute effectiveness. From an IRL standpoint it makes sense because the shots the majority of the community sees are point blank shots from the slot or breakaways and you would expect that a good amount of these shots go in. However, because we see probably 3x the amount of shots from this area, in the NHL "Approximately 30-35% of all NHL goals are scored from "high-danger area"", I don't know if there is a statistic to show what EANHL sits at but personally i believe goaltending needs a slight balancing because this feels like more of a 50/50 chance instead of a 33% chance. I get that this is more of a defensive issue than a goalie one but unfortunately the way people play this game isn't like real life and they don't play appropriate defense, leaving goalies out to dry and feeling like we have to be pin-point perfect. Goalies need a little help from the programming side of things to make the position feel like were worth while and make the position fun again. As someone who loves the position, feeling like I'm useless without the help of others is a bit too extreme. I want to feel like I can still battle to make saves, especially if the puck is within my normal reach. With every new HUT event objective, my patience wears thin because they're simply impossible. I don't know, maybe it's just a problem with my skills. But then, could you please compile statistics on how many players actually complete them, how many attempts it takes them, and the total time they take? I think the numbers wouldn't be very impressive. I also think whoever comes up with them hasn't played the game at all and doesn't understand how difficult it is to score goals on difficulties higher than Pro. How unbearable the game is at these levels is a whole other topic entirely; it's simply a simulator of beating your sleepy teammates with endless hits. And to elaborate on the inadequacy of the objectives: why only 3 goals in 150 seconds, why not 5, or 10? Or maybe there's still too much time; let's just make it 10 seconds for everything. I'm also touched by those penalty kills, like those for Hughes in Minnesota, and those on the penalty kill against Kaprizov—how long has Kaprizov been playing penalty kills, especially on faceoffs? It would be interesting to see how the creator plays them, perhaps on a stream; I think they'd be more responsible in assessing their difficulty. Or I'd watch and learn how. What's definitely unfair is the reward for these pain-fests—the effort expended isn't commensurate with what's gained. And as a suggestion, could we implement progress saving, so that after another botched attempt where a player managed to score two goals, they could start from that state, rather than starting over each time, since even those two goals already represent a significant amount of effort and time. Include the real tournament structure and the "Frozen Four" atmosphere. Franchise Mode Integration: Fix the current scouting gap. Instead of just seeing a text name for a prospect in the USA, let us scout actual NCAA stats and performance. Allow drafted players to stay in college for development (just like in real life) without signing immediately, risking them becoming free agents after 4 years (the "Jimmy Vesey" rule). Atmosphere & Presentation: NCAA hockey has arguably the best crowd atmosphere in the sport. Fighting is horrible. Every single decent hit you have to fight. I turned off fighting but it keeps turning itself on. I ended up getting hurt 3 times on my first games because it turns itself back on. I missed playoffs, only played 47 games, and never can complete coaches challenges due to injuries Grading system sucks. Get off the bench and the other team scores. I have no time to defend because I literally got off the bench and it DESTROYS my defensive and overall grade. 2 assists barley move anything up at all. hard to maintain 85 overall score when your goalie/teammates suck which destroys your grades. Trait system. Hi EA, Quick UX suggestion from someone who actually tries to play goalie. Since the game already seems to be built in Visual Studio, can we add something very simple to the settings menu? Just a couple of checkboxes. Nothing fancy. ☐ Disable Goalie Brain ☐ Disable Any Goalie Thinking Whatsoever Here’s the idea: If I am controlling the goalie, then the goalie does not need opinions, instincts, second thoughts, auto-corrections, or “helpful” AI decisions. If I move left, that means left. Not “left unless the goalie AI thinks I’m wrong.” Not “left but slowly drift back to center because the system disagrees.” Just left. Right now the biggest issue isn’t realism — it’s that the game actively overrides player input. When a goal goes in, I don’t even know if it was my mistake or the goalie’s AI deciding to freelance. That makes playing goalie feel pointless and unrewarding. If I want an AI goalie, I’ll let the CPU control him. If I pick goalie myself, I’m clearly asking for manual control, not a debate. Please let us choose: Full AI goalie Or fully dumb, obedient goalie who does exactly what the player inputs If I overcommit and get burned, that’s on me. At least then the position would be skill-based instead of guess-based.
