You play 20 min periods. Gotta be a long season for you. Try 4 min periods. Then check your numbers again. The CC games as an example, are roughly 3 to 4 min periods. Although you are trying to find more realism in the game. Extended periods like 20 mins, isnt going to give you that. Unless. Your simming your games. Even then. The numbers are never realistic. Its a game of zeros and ones. Not real life.

Oh hell no, I cant play 20 minute periods I dont have time for that. I play 8 to 10 minutes periods. Just to get the stats somewhat realistic, compared to actual real life nhl averages. Shots are between 20-35 each per game, hits between 20-30 per team, penalties between 2-6 per team, faceoffs are anywhere between 30 to 50 total faceoffs per game. However I also play as slow as you can play. My sliders are weird but I try to make it so gameplay is as reliant on player attributes as it can be. Everything is either at 0 or 100 depending on what it effects. I tried one 20 minute period and the stat lines were crazy. All im saying is that the giveaway and takeaway stats make it seem like every change of possession counts as a take away, instead of when a player actually takes the puck away via strip, check or interception. Like when you dump and chase, if you dont retrieve the puck, realistically thats a giveaway, not a takeaway for the defence. A inaccurate pass should be counted as a giveaway not a takeaway, where a good pass that gets intercepted by the opposite team should be counted as a takeaway and not a giveaway. Blocking a shot or picking up a rebound shouldnt be counted as a shot block and a takeaway, just a shot block. A shot missing the net should be a giveaway and not a takeaway. I know I sound insane , its just something that makes my brain tick.
