The builds aren't P2W. Attributes play only a small role in the general outcome of games.

That's essentially how it was done in the past. Just my opinion, but I think the online player-base for World of Chel was far too fragmented between all the different modes, so 3v3 or 6v6 suffered longer matchmaking times as a result. EA pivoted away from team RP matchmaking in favor of just one large pool of team matchmaking meaning top tier teams could match with casual clubs.
What needs to happen is EA needs to decide whether WoC really needs all the modes it has or can be stripped down in favor of more skill-based matchmaking. Players who spend their time in ONes or Eliminator may be upset, but allowing drop-in players to search only for open club spots would really go a long way in bringing back people who despise the current drop-in setup. The biggest gripe is the vibe of a drop-in that's full of randoms. It's a snoozefest. Whereas joining a club as a random instills a sense of wanting to do well for the team who has adopted you.
Move away from individualistic modes and encourage more teamplay by way of seamless integration of drop-in players and clubs with open spots.
