Be a Pro - 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

In NHL 21 you cannot play in the CHL (Canadian Hockey League, WHL, OHL, QMJHL) for a full season prior to your draft year. In NHL 20, you could make a player on a team in the say WHL, play your draft year in juniors and be drafted in the following year. Now, if you make player in the WHL and you only get to start off in the memorial cup, and you get drafted 1st overall (with Draft set to Authentic) by the New York Rangers, there are now two 2020 1st overall players on the team. If you simulate through the memorial cup (or CHL Europe Tournament) you still get drafted by a team. If you simulate through the pre-season of your NHL team, with the BAP sim penalty on, you still make the team, if you continue to sim say the first month of the regular season, and don't keep any performance promises, you may get scratched, but you don't get sent down to the AHL, or back to juniors. I take it you can't play a full season in the CHL or AHL or a European League?

  • Here is another issue, let's say you have the latest roster update, you start a BaP, and run through the memorial cup and get drafted by a team (my BaP was drafted 2nd overall by the Kings). Look at the teams player information. You can see players salary amount and length, they are all short by 1 year! For example, according to the Rosters and CapFriendly, Drew Doughty has 7 years left on his contract, starting in the 2020-2021 season. In my BaP he only has 6 years left in his contract. We are playing in the 2020-2021 Season. If you start a franchise mode, and sim to say game 3 of the regular season, and look at Drew Doughty, he has 7 years left on his contract! AS IT SHOULD BE!

Also, check out the Awards, it still shows the Blues as the winner of the Stanley Cup, but the other awards are correct!

  • Yeah for some stupid reason they took out the junior season before the draft. Why? There’s no sense of reward for playing or trying very hard considering you’ll get drafted no matter what, and pretty high (I got 1st overall for playing in 4 games and getting 2G 2A)

and now they cater to you like you’re a child and you never get sent down, or punished for playing awful. How is that any fun or realistic?

this revamp would have been awesome, if you could play the season in juniors and actually work hard to get drafted, and be rewarded (or not) based on your play throughout the season. This mode would be awesome if you could get sent down to the ahl/chl if you simply weren’t ready for the nhl or were playing awful.

The ideas and features were decent, the conversations and challenges were cool ideas. The salary tree, skill tree, the record book, the milestone tracker. All great stuff.

but taking out the actual challenge and rewards for playing well, and instead just making it super forgiving and impossible to fail, really made this “revamp” miss the mark.

if they don’t add the junior season back, as well as playing in the ahl/chl, and fix the numerous bugs, I don’t see the point in playing this mode (or the game, really) since I could just sim the whole thing and end up doing great. No sense of accomplishment. No challenge.

    worst one since nhl 15/16
