Community ManagerYou can try lowering the difficulty if All-Star is too much of a challenge. The higher the difficulty, the more you need to adjust how you play. On Superstar, for example, chasing the carrier is going to leave open passing lanes the AI will take advantage of. I always have to sit back a bit and work on cutting off their open lanes instead. When you're on All-Star or lower, you can get away with being out of position and playing more aggressive.
The CPU players don't mirror their human opponents. They look to set up good scoring chances by pulling you out of position with good passing. Something many humans don't do as they don't take time to set up in their offensive zone and work the puck around. Which the CPU players will do.
