game slider question

Ok I might be understanding these wrong this entire time so....

what does the AI learning slider mean? is it that the opponent AI learns your habits or the player teammates?

what does the user strategy adjustment slider mean?

thanks.

  • AI Learning:

AI players will adapt to how your opponent is playing, such as tendencies.

The User Strategy Adjustment is somewhat similar where it's how the AI adjusts to your strategy that is selected.

user strategy is how the OPPONENT(?) AI adjusts to MY strategy

    correct?

Okay.. this is what I have learned. Since I have asked this question before and got no answers.. I’m surprised you got a reply.. but this is what I have learned.

The AI explanation didn’t help. Is that AI teammates learn in a positive way or the AI opponent learns in a negative way? And is that your tendencies so that your teammates can adjust or is that how the other team learn your habits to play against you? That part I haven’t figured out yet. So I just keep it at 3/6 for now.

Okay.. CPU strategy what I have learned is more like an offensive awareness slider. At 0/6 the other team will play as programmed as a default. It doesn’t know or care that it is losing or winning, it will play the default setting with no adjustments. So if its down by 5 goals, it wont do anything to score to catch up, it will just play to score. At 6/6 it is the most aggressive offensive setting. If your team is down by one 2min into the 1st period it will launch into an all out attack to get that goal back. It also will try to score all the time. If its down by 5 or up by 5, it will attack attack attack. This is good if your team is down and losing, but it wont do anything to defend. It will just be aggressive. So what I do is keep my team just one tick above the CPU. So if I have the CPU at 3/6, then my team is 4/6. What I’m saying is that its a score awareness slider. At 0 it is not aware at 6 its going to come at the opponent.

The AI adjustment slider is a bit different. This is how smart the team plays in a given situation. Say your team is up by 2 goals in the 3rd with 5min left. At 0/6 the offense and Defense will try to score if they have the puck. But with the AI slider at 6/6 then the computer will only send 2 forwards into the zone and leave the D behind the blue line for a counter attack. But this goes both ways… this means the other team is also smarter and it will depend on the players offense and defensive awareness rating to take over. In other words, it affects how smart the players are.

I hope this helps… think of it as a race car driver.  At CPU strategy at 0, the driver is unaware what place its in. It will drive around the track but not aware if its in the lead or in last, it will just drive. At 6/6, it will do whatever it can to pass other cars. At 3/6 it will pass but not be as aggressive.

The AI is the intelligence. At 0/0 the driver wont be smart at how it drives. It’s just going to drive as its default. At 6/6, then the driver will be smart and find ways to pass.

I have my learning slider at 3/6 because I haven’t figured out what it exactly does yet. At CPU strategy I keep my team at 4/6 and the other teams at 3/6. And the AI..I’m still learning but I was playing at 0/6 for about 35 games and got frustrated how my team would always attack even up by goal late in the period and the other team would always score on me. But I bumped it up to 3 the last few games and I like it better. The D comes back in case the other team counters and I have lowered my GAA and my save % has gone up because the team plays a better defense despite having the other team play better also.

Okay, been doing some more testing and been very frustrated, but I think I’m zeroing in on some things..

    1. the CPU and BAP strategy adjustment sliders are awareness sliders that would probably affect the offense. The higher the number the more aggressive the offense seems to be.

    2. the User strategy adjustment is essentially an AI adjustment. I think it affects the IQ of the computer players on your team and your opponents team. Example. If I have it on setting 6/6 in 6 games, the other team scored against me in the first 2 shots. Set to 3/6 they scored on my the first 5 shots in 6 games. And on 0/6 they shoot pretty much towards the center of the net. I am going to guess that it makes each player smarter with shot selection and how to attack the net regardless position. If you were on Offense or Defense, It makes them seem like HOF. But it doesn’t effect Human Goalie IQ. They remain the same regardless of position.

    3. Still working on the AI learning. I just have it at 0 for now and averaging .888 save % which sucks.

A side note: with the CPU strategy set at higher numbers, you will see more shots on goal against your team. At 3/6 you will average about 1 shot for every real minute you play. So if you are playing 5min periods, then expect about 15 shots. 8 min periods will have an average of about 24 shots per game. At 1/6 in a 5 min period Ill be lucky to see 11 shots per game and at a setting of 1/6 at 8min periods you’ll be lucky to see an average of 15 shots a game. So that’s where I came to the conclusion that its really an aggression slider.

Just remember to notice the difference with Quality of shots vs Quantify of shots. Quality vs Quantity of goals. If you like your AI settings but want more shots, then increase the Game speed slider. No need to adjust anything else. If you adjust one slider, it will affect many sliders in other areas. If you start messing around with passing and hitting, then you will affect goal scoring and shooting. So only adjust ONE slider at a time and play at least 3 games against the same team to get a feel for what the slider actually does.

    Hope this helps.

Okay help me out on the AI learning slider.. because the explanation didn’t explain. Remember, that we are not in the programming area so you will have to explain it to me like I am a 6th grader.

I’m going to ask just as a BAP goalie.. so you’ll have to answer from that point of view.

If I have the Ai learning slider at 6/6 then who learns what? Does my Teammates learn how I play and therefore will be a positive thing? Or does my team learn how the other team plays and that is a positive thing?

Does the opponent learn how to play against my team or does it learn how to play against me? So is it a negative affect?

If its a negative affect then why have a CPU difficulty slider if you have AI learning?

I am still working on the slider because trying to get a balance between the CPU strategy adjustment vs the User strategy adjustment. And if as a BAP goalie, I can’t change any strategy ,so does that slider do any good?

If you answer.. thank you… You can save me a lot of hours playing and playing trying to figure it out, or just tell me so I can work on finding a good balance.
