HDR too dark in NHL 22
Product: NHL 22 Platform:Xbox Series X How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%) Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Enable HDR What happens when the bug occurs? All colors are too da...
@EA_Blueberry any update? Been about a month since the last update. Hope this gets fixed.
I've had these issues with previous games and then magically around this time of the year, the problem is fixed without notice, so hope the same thing happens.
@casdevils2k
Still awaiting an update.
Question for you all here,
Have you checked to see if your TV has the latest update and did you make any custom changes to your T.V.? Usually bugs like this where the game is showing a different color across multiple TVs would be easier to reproduce on our end with a clear picture of what is happening.
Please answer the following:
It's the game the issue. Even Madden 21 is dark. EA game seems not know how to use hdr. Play Rachet, Ghost of Tsushima, Dirt 5, no hdr issue, pure white. Furthermore, the ice during offense is more white than in defense. If it was a TV issue it will be the same everywhere...

Please answer the following:
- Do you have your console plugged directly into the wall or are you using a surge protector? Are you using an extension cord?
- Do the results change when you plug your console into a different TV or monitor? This way we can identify if it's TV related rather than the settings on the console or other TV in combination.
- What kind of HDMI cables are you using? (Picture of them of them if you are not sure is acceptable)
- Have you tried resetting your TV to factory settings? If any custom settings were made, going back to default could help identify if the issue still occurs on factory settings.
If you all can respond back to the info we're requesting above we can relay it over to the team so they can understand what conditions you are all experiencing this under it can help them identify what is the root cause. This is not a widespread bug so it seems to be very difficult to reproduce. If we know what hardware is being used it could help identify what is causing HDR to not be compatible. I searched the NHL Reddit and only saw 1 other person post about this so far. Any help you can give us is appreciated as we're here to champion for you and gather info necessary for a potential fix.
There has been plenty of posts over the last 3 months of people posting their TV settings and models showing that this is not a TV issue, but an in game issue.
Personally my 2020 Q90T has received two software updates since NHL 22 came out and there is no difference at all with HDR. No TV setting helps the HDR picture with the game and there is only HDR issues with NHL 22 specifically with my TV.
Hopefully we see an update soon. Preferably a HDR brightness slider.
@EA_Blueberry there is more than 1 subject on reddit...
My hardware : LG 65C9 Oled (deep color and game response activated), ps5 directly connected with the official hdmi. Direct power for both.
@TheOnlineGam4r NHL 21 is not natively hdr. The ps5 do a fake hdr that why the ice is white 🙂
@Sry4disturbYep haha and if i desactivate HDR on my ps5 for NHL 22 game look okay
So the problem is nhl 22 hdr on oled
Oled still have less nits but it's not an excuse when you see for example Ghost of Tsushima with all vivid color including a lot of white.
I try disabling GSR and ASBL throw service menu but still Grey...
i have the same problem with Nhl 22 using Oled Tv.
turning off HDR on ps5 fix the issue..
HDR ON using a NON oled tv is fine (led tv)
I had an Lcd Lg (NANO85) and the hdr was still super dark. I change for an Oled (C1) and it’s better but still this loss of light in some places so i don’t think that oled is the problem. Maybe LG? I tried with the ps4 version on PS5 with the HDR and the game looks perfect. This is probably a new gen bug with the frostbite engine. Really Hope that they will fix it because i miss my 140$.
this is NHL 22 PS5 HDR ON
this is NHL 22 PS5 HDR OFF
same LG C1 setting i just turn OFF HDR on nhl 22 as u can see ice is better
more white and bright and blue line is more blue than gray blue .. the big problem is behind my goalie net.. the ice come very gray and bad
iknow the difference is not huge on the picture but face to face on the tv and playing the game u can see a BIG diff
so HDR on nhl 22 is bad.. temp fix is to play with HDR off...

The same with my c9. With hdr off you loose some light reflections and scratches on the ice. But I prefer a white ice tbh 🙂
Yepp
I tested the game On my XBOX ONE SERIES X and HDR IS GOOD using the same TV setting
so the problem is onnly on PS5 NHL 22 HDR have some issues
Same dude !!
My SERIES X HDR is fine with nhl 22
but on PS5 NHL 22 HDR have issues thats weird
LG Nano 85. Same issue. If you disable all high end functions including HDR, the ice brightens up but the game looks terrible. It makes it unplayable either way. All other PS5 games function fine as do XBox one, DVDs, and even PS3 on my setup. It has nothing to do with power strips or HDMI cables.
IT’S IN THE GAME
Deeply disappointed.
Ea should try buy an OLED TV to see the issues ..
Just tried NHL 22 on another TV for the first time and have the same HDR issues that I'm having on my main TV.
Xbox Series X
Using a different TV and cables
Having the same dark appearance when using HDR.
Turning HDR off makes the game bright and vibrant.
