I live in Ontario, Canada and when I boot up my NHL 14 game and it connects me to the EA servers, it is connecting me to the wrong server. I am supposed to be connecting to the North American East server and instead, the game is connecting me to the North American West server, which causes unplayable lag if you are playing OTP/EASHL with somebody on a North American East host.
This is a widespread issue affecting many players and needs to be fixed immediately. It is noticed by going into EASHL menu, going to "Around the League" and clicking on "Search Clubs". Once in search clubs, you scroll down to club region. It displays the 3 regions (NA East, NA West and Europe) and shows a recommended server for you, which is the server you are connected to. Through the day when the server isn't as busy, I have no problem connecting to the North American East server. I played on it all day. When you connect durng the hours of 630-12, which is the peak hours to play, it connects you to the NA west server.
This is a serious issue which requires immediate attention as many players are unable to play a game which they paid for and are very passionate about. The game advertises that online play is a feature and it is unplayable for reasons beyond the gamers control.

Hey, I'm having the same exact problem. I'm from Ontario as well, and everyone that has this issue, that I know of, is also from Ontario. I was playing Eashl tonight, and lagged up until 12am. Once 12am hit, the lag was gone. After the game, I went to see if the region had switched to NA East (where it should be), but it was still on NA West. I'm not sure why it was still on NA west, but fortunetly the lag was gone. This has been happening this entire week, lag from 7pm-12am, than after 12am, everything is smooth. Can someone from EA please respond and let us know what's going on.
Also, to add me my previous comment, I'm hearing a lot of people with this problem aren't only from Ontario, but also have Bell as their ISP. So can someone confirm whether or not they are from Ontario, with Bell internet? Thanks.
Ever since this has been brought to attention on the EA forums I have been taking notes of what 'Recommended Region' I am connecting to.
I've been experiencing this lag since release and this could be the issue.
Here are todays notes
6pm Eastern - Region Recommended: North America East < Playable 3/4 through game then unplayable lag.
6:25pm Eastern - Recommended Region: North America West < Unplayable lag and Red Bar in position select screen.
6:50pm Eastern - Recommended Region: North America West: Unplayable lag when I am host, western friend also experiencing unplayable lag (he couldnt pause or quit. froze after I quit) Still have red bar in position select screen
7:10pm Eastern - Recommended Region: North America West : Playable Gameplay with next to no lag when a WEST friend is hosting (friend also has no lag) also had red bar in position select screen (6 tripping penalties. May have to do with my connection to the west server)
7:50pm Eastern - Recommended Region: North America East < Smooth Gameplay. Zero lag, chop or delay until 1:20 left in 2nd Period (8:06pm) 2second delay. less than 10min left in 3rd completely choppy gameplay (stutter with 2 second controller input delay)
8:20pm Eastern - Recommended Region: North America West < Very few playable minutes in game due to 1-3 second controller input delay & choppy/stuttery lag
8:43pm Eastern - Recommended Region: North America East < Smooth gameplay
11:00pm - 1am Eastern - Recommended Region: North America East < Smooth gameplay
My notes from October 17th are nearly identical.
My ISP is cogeco and I am from Windsor Ontario. Last year I hardly ever experienced lag. This year from 6pm-11pm I lag in nearly all my games.
Too add to my previous post before each game I played I reset my modem and ps3 then checked which server I was connecting too
- There are two threads with heavy traffic on the same issue heavy lag caused by an issue with our location where we are from the east but are redirected to west and play with people on east server all those jumps to connect are causing latency issues. This needs to be fixed asap!
- I am having the EXACT same issue here, live in Hamilton ON, on Bell internet. It started happening after the update.
Not sure what we can do, make lots of noise and hopefully they fix it?
When I look at the GM settings of my club it says North America West Recommended, but my whole club is from Ontario and we have it set to East..
I'm getting very pissed off!! I just want to play the game I was waiting for and purchased. I'm having the same thing in Montreal, QC here. Also a Bell client...
- Hey guys I actually got to play lag free last night!
Since it said West was recommended I went into GM Settings and changed the server from N.A. East to West (even though I am in Ontario). It worked! Played just fine all night with no lag at all!
We were playing EASHL 5v5 and nobody had lag, which is rare.
Try it, hopefully you guys are the GM..- That's good you were able to do that but that do fix it for people who play otp or league games. Playing in 6v6 lobbies is unplayable for me. Sat and Sunday morning I was able to connect to NA east but soon as evening hits I can only connect to NA west. And while connect to west I can't play at all. I'm very close to saying **bleep** NHL all together and selling it.
This issue is still hapenning and if affecting all of eastern Canada which are using Bell as an ISP (other companies also use Bell system so other people may notice issues as well). It's caused by latency fluctuation because we live on the east side get redirected to the west server and then bounced back to East Host causing delay/fps lag. This needs to be fixed asap it is affecting thousands of customers , EA wake up.

- I just wann play a game if im online i cant even play an exitbition now. It has just gotten worse and worse since last monday. Someone from EA please help o have tried everything what is going.on here
