Thanks for the input here. Threes Eliminator is a pretty over the top mode when it comes to hits. That's the intent as it's a more arcade-style of play. Have you tried playing EASHL 3v3 instead? You'll find a lot more realistic gameplay there.
Those giant oafs make way more of an impact in eashl 3's - they don't need to even hit you all that well and you get sent flying, causing an easy odd-man advantage.
Don't even get me started on the intentional ballerina skating and penalty shots... yeah really realistic.
Anyhoo, just play as a grinder - you'll be able to hit the DD's and enforcers right back and they have enough speed and shot to win you eliminator tournaments, threes and ones

The LT'ing was cut down a lot with the last patch. As far as penalty shots go, that's part of Threes Eliminator. It's an arcade mode and not really meant to be realistic. If you're giving up penalty shots in EASHL 3v3, you need to be more careful with poke checking on breakaways.
Threes Eliminator is all about hitting. Pokes are extremely effective because people don't expect them and they are more lenient than eashl 3's. As I said, make a Grinder and every single problem anyone has will be resolved for that mode.
You don't need to L2 to manipulate people in eashl 3's and be a major pain in the behind. All i'm saying is while eashl 3's is more realistic than Eliminator, it's definitely doesn't have realistic gameplay.
I don't give up penalties in eashl 3's, thats all on the ai
