Is releasing a player even possible in GM mode?!?!

Someone please just prove to me im stupid and this is totally possible 

So GM mode is like my favorite mode, but i currently refuse to even play it due to the non draft (i know its being fixed) but also... 

HOW COME I CANT RELEASE A PLAYER?!

Picked the wings and any player in the AHL or "in the system" should be available to release from roster, my roster is currently full so when i offer a contract to an UFA they reject due to full roster...

I should not be forced to make trades when i should be able to release a minor off the team, i 100% know without a doubt it was possible for 14, because i put it in and tried it... its right there, not on 15 for the XBONE...
