Issue with controls in NHL 2009

Hello. My issue in reference to gamepad controls in the NHL 2009 controls settings. Playprocess uses another settings that in the options. Now the controller settings has classic mode and defense settings has different functions with attack mode. But in an action several of the buttons do another deeds or no deeds at all. I can not realize defense possibilities in main. And don't understand why when I throw to gates and putting "3" button my throw gets no directions.
