NHL 14 EA Sports Hockey League

I was playing a game of club with a friend against another online team and it abruptly ended with everyone supposedly lagging out. When we returned to the homescreen I looked at my player's attributes and he was dempoted from a superstar 3 to a veteran 3. Lost all skill but his points and actual logged minutes were still there. Any help or explnation?
