Honestly, I disagree about the gameplay being awful. I've been playing hockey games for as long as I can remember (I'm over 30 y/o btw, so not a young kid or anything), and while I always enjoyed and preferred the 2k series back in the day, I had no choice but to switch to EA once 2k stopped making NHL games. I don't exactly recall when that was; perhaps 2k5 or 2k6 was the last one from that series, right? Regardless, been playing every year of EA nhl since, and some have definitely been better than others.
I'm playing on PS4 now, for the first year as I just bought the system last October (2015). I personally feel NHL 16 is one of the best hockey games to come out. Please don't take that to mean I think it's perfect or even near flawless. Yes, there are glitches - especially with online play, something I avoided entirely on PS3 after the one year I did utilize it and just got too annoyed.
Still, there's no such thing as a perfect game, period, so I think a lot of people expect far too much and are thusly disappointed when they don't get what feels or plays like a flawless game. Again, though, I'm NOT saying EA is somehow innocent when it comes to making promises they don't keep, or from failing to listen to us, the fans and consumers, about what should be added/changed/etc. The company should do a better job at this stuff; yet, all the while, I think a good deal of the complaints about NHL 16 (new gen version; no idea what the PS3/X-Box One versions are like) are unfounded.

Well I don't know where to begin. Matbe it should be the fact that when you go to drop in if you don't pause in time you glitch out. Maybe we should start with the fact that you try to pass the puck close to the boards the puck gets stuck like you put your stick through the bords. how about the random passing to nowhere. The best way to play goalie on longer shots is to be out of the net sometimes because you can't even hit an open net. How about the fact that I can't remeber an update to try to fix any issue.
Bottom line EA Sports has cornered the market and they know people will play there crappy games just to play. They used to put out much better products all around. I guess gameplay getting better with each new system left the behind creatively. people pay way more for games and overall I would rate the sega versions of the game higher in many aspects of the game. seriously how much did they pay you to write this *!
Oh well it is back to hockey just so i didn't completly waste my money. Don't spend it all in one place. Oh wait I hope they didn't give pucks for this...
