Been playing nhl competitively for years , I have bell fibre internet , game says 10 ms . My guy is unresponsive and delayed in all my movements . Fat man lag . I live in ontario and it feels as t...
just connected to my sisters internet which is next door through wifi . The input delay is gone but because of the proximity to the router I have a lot of choppiness now . Skipping and catching up frames , How could the input delay disappear on worse connection far worse connection. Photo attached
I chose this comment to reply to because my latency on HUT is usually in the 50-55 range, and I have the worst experience known to man with this game. My line in the graph is basically a flat line too, so there isn't a lot of change going on. It almost feels like the more money I spend on speed upgrades, new wires/cables, and better modem/routers the worse my experience is...not that it's really been happy for the last 7 or so years. I currently use a Netgear router with NetDuma's firmware, and aside from showing me more things about my connection it doesn't seem to change anything with any of the settings you can enable.
I think your average player who doesn't invest too much time in the game (2-8 hours per week) doesn't realize the connection advantage. They just think, wow this guys a sweat and move on. I used to play this game 20-30 hours a week (work from home) and it took me like 2 weeks to notice there was huge discrepancy with connection sometimes. One day I want to check it out, go to a nice hotel in northern VA that has LAN connection (no wifi) and spend a weekend playing NHL and seeing if I get any of those "mud" games.
It's pretty sad how gameplay can variate from Online Versus to HUT. Online versus is never an issue and always crisp, clean play. Then when you play HUT it's practically a coin toss to who's going to have a server advantage. Clearly shows the inferior online experience EA provides with their servers compared to a P2P connection. And their only defense to that is "OH we don't want people getting IP booted." That's a poor explanation especially when you have GWC going and it has nothing to do with skill because it's based in HUT.
P2P connections don't take place on our servers. Chances are good you're connecting to someone closer to you than the nearest dedicated server so that could provide a better connection. Especially if you're in a region that's not close to a dedicated server.
@EA_Aljo just shows how your dedicated servers don't do a thing. Just helps one person in a match have an advantage because of geographical location. Versus it's never an issue.
If you're far from a dedicated server, your connection won't be as strong. That's not an issue with our servers. Hopefully, we'll have one closer to you at some point in the future. This is why you're getting a better connection in Online Versus games because you're connecting with someone closer to you than our servers.
@EA_Aljo Makes sense.. gameplay is always crisp and clean in versus but plays like garbage most of the time in HUT. It's bad enough GWC is based out of HUT but now you add the garbage EA servers variable and its already determined who's going to place in the top 32 lol. P2P and you might actually see some parity in the competition.
The top 32 are not pre-determined. If you have a bad connection, your chances of making it there are a lot lower though of course.
P2P would only work everyone participating played in the same, small, region. Longer distances would give both players a bad connection. Also, both players are going to be affected if one of them as a bad connection. IP booting can also be a big problem. Dedicated servers are much better for this event, but if you live in a more remote area, that's going to cause a weaker connection due to the distance to your closest server.
Being closer to a dedicated server would help. Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything else that can be done. Hopefully, we'll have a server located closer to you at some point.
These servers are a joke. I have all the input delay everyone else is having. Living in southern Ontario. Fix the servers... I've done every trouble shooting step there is..running 1.5gbps bell Fibre directly to my house. Ping is 12ms but feels like 150 - 200... Running the game on Ps5.
The biggest reason why it's the ea servers is because every other game I play that's not ea has zero delay and plays perfectly. I have the same delay in fifa as well. But it's my connection and hard ware right? I've literally upgraded and changed every hardware to the best possible scenario. Nothing works.
-New ethernet cable
-New hdmi cablr
-New gaming 1ms monitor (Asus designed for the Ps5 with hdmi 2.1)
-New modem
-tried multiple dns servers
-turned off hdr
-turned off 4k went down to 1080p
-went from wireless to wired controller (turned off Bluetooth)
-ethernet 3ft away from Ps5.
It's a server issue. Stop blaming the customers. I know there's tons of variables. But there's just too many of us with the same issues. It's 2022 we should've be having this delay. It's apparently in every ea game.. That should say something. Fifa players are complaining as well. I have no issues playing versus mode (peer to peer) it's only when connecting to the servers.
I'm pretty sure it's the qc server that's having the biggest problem. Why can't I choose what server I can play on? Because clearly the one I'm on is horrendous. (pretty sure it's the qc server)
I wanted to compete in the Gwc tournament and it was so delayed that I ended up giving up, it was totally unplayable.
Since you play FIFA, can you run the Connection Quality Report and provide a screenshot of your overall score as well as the match history? NHL doesn't have that, unfortunately, but since you're lagging on both games, that could help with this. Something that really makes this difficult is that we can't just put the blame on the servers since the high majority of the community isn't experiencing this. That's most likely due to other variables, as I previously said. Finding the right combination of them isn't an easy task. We'll keep watching for more reports and as always, will continue to monitor our servers for any issues.
How about someone from ea does a test with me and switches my server to test? Then we can figure out what server is the issue? Pretty sure I'm on the qc server. Switch me to east server and let me try. I am down for some testing if ea actually wants to fix this.
@EA_Aljo Pretty close to being pre-determined then. Guaranteed the top 32 all have the advantage of being closer to a server so how does that make it fair for everyone else? Whenever I don't experience this input lag I almost always win. As soon as I get the input lag I almost always lose even if I outplay my opponent.
Winners are not pre-determined based on their connection quality. Especially since the high majority of people don't experience lag. Of course, having a weaker connection is going to hinder your chances at success. Hopefully, we'll have a server closer to you in the future.
I live like 10 minutes from montreal have a 3ms connection hardwired. 6ms on wifi
And 80 percent of my games are garbage
My game rotation consist of
One game where Its so so or even
Quit next 3-4 cause its unplayable. Total fun watching my opponent take the puck away constantly at will no matter how much i protect the puck, poke checks never miss and are 100 pervent success the onlyoffense i can generate is basically gain the blue line and shoot while i watch them skate around at free will like my guys are cones and every poke results in tripping
Then get a game i can clearly tell i have the optimal/better connection cause my players are fast and i can do no wrong and score like 3-4 goals quick which results in my opponent quitting
And repeat over again
So much fun playing 6,7or 8 games out of ten that end up quiting in first 5 minutes

Of course it is pre-determined in a way. Two players with equal skill, the guy with the better connect always wins. High majority don't experience lag? In Finland maybe, but not in Western Europe. It's good that the issue gets more attention in this forum, we had the thread with 50 pages which went nowhere except complaining but the issue still exists.
With GWC, it becomes even more evident. I don't know which genius at EA thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the option to search for 20 - 30ms games, now 40ms is max so the chance for me as a German to play on the Swedish server is even higher. And the games I had to play when the ping was between 28-32ms was just unbelievable bad. Sometimes I saw the goalie record of my opponents and I realized that I got outplayed by mediocre players and the fat man lag.
I could make 100s videos of glitches and bugs and the disadvantages one has, but the worst part for me has always been that my players don't pick up pucks with fat man lag
They always say that the meta is big defenders and I tend to disagree, my TOTY Adam Fox is great without lag because he is fast and agile despite his small size. But with fat man lag, he becomes unusable and even a liability. In this video, look how he doesn't pick up the puck, perfect assist for my opponent. I have trouble moving with Hedman as well just before the pass, it's all delayed. https://youtu.be/T0CUMh4hhak
Hedman not picking up the puck. Happens all the time with fat man lag.
I got lucky in the next video, but look how the puck "wraps" to the goaline (21 sec). And why is McDonagh moving to the left side away from the opponent at the 8 second mark? And why was this even called off? https://youtu.be/emXnUSsGPfI
And this is how the stats look like when you play with fat man lag. My opponent is Top 15 right now in the GWC and I would say that he got used to the connection advantage because he was using LT not only with the Danglers but with Burns as well and he got away with it because my players didn't move. Fat man lag, you know...
Another ping with spikes against a guy I had no chance against.
Anway, I hope EA is doing Cross-Play in NHL 23 (and getting rid of LT in the offensive zone) and I hope they are boosting their infrastructure because of it (more servers in more locations, especially Europe and Eastern Europe). If you don't, I am 100% convinced, you'll get the same threads in this forum again and even less players. And then, it might be a good moment to call it quits for me as well even though HUT is a lot of fun.
I've just been reading and man what u run out of stuff on ur script sheet? lol most cooperate bs answers I've ever heard deflect any blame so ur telling me Mr. Aljo that u think EA not only has the best gaming servers in the world but there games are so finished and polished that there cant be anything wrong with it? unfortunately ea cant make a good game to save there own life The only thing the terrible developers can code is a animation for packs like bro a indigame called Inscryption had better gameplay experience then any EA game in the last 5 years and instead of making bs claims ab peoples router look at battle field 2042 i had more fun on vanguard and vanguard is my most hated game thank god ive quit supporting ea and whenever i can get a game for free i do and bro i wish i could get paid to play this trash like who ever made this im talking ab the developers and coders they are the most untalented and useless people I've ever seen look at madden 22 it had madden 20 banners in the background all these games are, are just reskins of the previous game with some copied future from another game x factors? so original and not once did u address the lag how is it activation got there stuff down i can play a game of team death match and don't have to worry ab stop and go lag but your games i guess have the true good servers and everysignle other company has the bad one yhe better question is is there dedicated servers for head to head, hut and every mode so players don't have to connect to different servers or worry ab peer to peer connection like most company's nowadays well ea knows it cost a bit more to do that so they will stick to the cheaper stuff i think there's 1 dedicated server in a 2022 game so everyone that reads this forum don't listen to aljo i worked for a cooperate business homegoods to be exact and did costumer service and all hes doing is reading from his sheet deflect blame from the company and try to place the blame on anything else like do one search of nhl 22 sucks or nhl22 lag and look and everything somehow all ea employees are just blind like look and that bozo who in court tried to say packs were surprises and not underage gambling
@bcardis21 like all u had to do mr aljo is do research its not a small group of people its most people there's a reason why when i go onto world of chell and do drop in it always says population low no one likes this game anymore
Come on, I've been complaining for so long about fat man lag, of course I enabled game mode. BTW, last two days connect was good, second game today while playing GWC against a Swedish player it was unplayable, players skating in mud again. It's so frustrating losing a game where you have no chance because of the connect.
Games a joke. I play MLB The Show and it’s 1000x better you can actually grind for stuff and not have to pay hundreds of dollars for chance to get a good team.
2 and a half / 3 weeks ago the game started running fine every game it was amazing . I was really enjoying playing the game again . Then a week past by and a mandatory update came out when I tried to log into chel . Fat man lag returned and every game is unplayable again . Past two weeks have been brutal . So disappointing I didn’t change anything and the game just broke again . Spoke with many members of the competitive nhl community that have said they have dealt with it in past years aswell and that eventually it just goes away .
