just connected to my sisters internet which is next door through wifi . The input delay is gone but because of the proximity to the router I have a lot of choppiness now . Skipping and catching up frames , How could the input delay disappear on worse connection far worse connection. Photo attached
Winners are not pre-determined based on their connection quality. Especially since the high majority of people don't experience lag. Of course, having a weaker connection is going to hinder your chances at success. Hopefully, we'll have a server closer to you in the future.

Of course it is pre-determined in a way. Two players with equal skill, the guy with the better connect always wins. High majority don't experience lag? In Finland maybe, but not in Western Europe. It's good that the issue gets more attention in this forum, we had the thread with 50 pages which went nowhere except complaining but the issue still exists.
With GWC, it becomes even more evident. I don't know which genius at EA thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the option to search for 20 - 30ms games, now 40ms is max so the chance for me as a German to play on the Swedish server is even higher. And the games I had to play when the ping was between 28-32ms was just unbelievable bad. Sometimes I saw the goalie record of my opponents and I realized that I got outplayed by mediocre players and the fat man lag.
I could make 100s videos of glitches and bugs and the disadvantages one has, but the worst part for me has always been that my players don't pick up pucks with fat man lag
They always say that the meta is big defenders and I tend to disagree, my TOTY Adam Fox is great without lag because he is fast and agile despite his small size. But with fat man lag, he becomes unusable and even a liability. In this video, look how he doesn't pick up the puck, perfect assist for my opponent. I have trouble moving with Hedman as well just before the pass, it's all delayed. https://youtu.be/T0CUMh4hhak
Hedman not picking up the puck. Happens all the time with fat man lag.
I got lucky in the next video, but look how the puck "wraps" to the goaline (21 sec). And why is McDonagh moving to the left side away from the opponent at the 8 second mark? And why was this even called off? https://youtu.be/emXnUSsGPfI
And this is how the stats look like when you play with fat man lag. My opponent is Top 15 right now in the GWC and I would say that he got used to the connection advantage because he was using LT not only with the Danglers but with Burns as well and he got away with it because my players didn't move. Fat man lag, you know...
Another ping with spikes against a guy I had no chance against.
Anway, I hope EA is doing Cross-Play in NHL 23 (and getting rid of LT in the offensive zone) and I hope they are boosting their infrastructure because of it (more servers in more locations, especially Europe and Eastern Europe). If you don't, I am 100% convinced, you'll get the same threads in this forum again and even less players. And then, it might be a good moment to call it quits for me as well even though HUT is a lot of fun.
Come on, I've been complaining for so long about fat man lag, of course I enabled game mode. BTW, last two days connect was good, second game today while playing GWC against a Swedish player it was unplayable, players skating in mud again. It's so frustrating losing a game where you have no chance because of the connect.
Games a joke. I play MLB The Show and it’s 1000x better you can actually grind for stuff and not have to pay hundreds of dollars for chance to get a good team.
2 and a half / 3 weeks ago the game started running fine every game it was amazing . I was really enjoying playing the game again . Then a week past by and a mandatory update came out when I tried to log into chel . Fat man lag returned and every game is unplayable again . Past two weeks have been brutal . So disappointing I didn’t change anything and the game just broke again . Spoke with many members of the competitive nhl community that have said they have dealt with it in past years aswell and that eventually it just goes away .
I just finished my second round of GWC European qualifier, made Top 100 again but didn't make it to the finals. I would be surprised if any German, Austrian or Swiss player made it through to the GWC finals due to the disadvantage with the connection.
In regards to my message from #101, anybody from EA can answer my question about change in the matchmaking settings and maximum ping in GWC? I lost all my games with >30ms ping which means I played on the Swedish server as a German player, my opponents players were all faster than me with at least double or triple the amount of TOA as I had. Why was this change implemented for GWC? This is supposed to be the highlight of the year and you made it unplayble and unfair for Western European players.
As I said before, I hope there will be more servers and cross-play for NHL 23. I enjoy my team but I am competitive as well and if the game gives me a disadvantage, why should I spend more time with it? I'll look very carefully at what EA announces for next year. Enjoy your Scandinavian GWC finals.
We were troubleshooting this in a different thread. I had asked if game mode was enabled on your TV, but didn't get a response. Can you let me know? Thank you.
Unfortunately, I don't have anything else to suggest since we already went through a ton of troubleshooting. Definitely check to make sure game mode is enabled though. It makes a big difference.
@EA_Aljo Thats why I stopped answering because your troubleshooting doesnt effect to anyone. You guys need to start getting better servers or this small community keeps getting even smaller.
Troubleshooting has helped many with lag issues. Once again though, did you actually try game mode on your TV? It should be very easy to enable and can highly improve input lag.
@EA_Aljo Gotta respect your patience, but dont know if ur trolling at this point.
Squad battles doesnt have input lag - issue is not controller, TV or HDMI
Online versus doesnt have input lag - issue is not internet also.
Tell me why there is games like Call of Duty Warzone and Fortnite that has +100 players in the same game without any connection issues, but in the NHL HUT, two finnish players cant have good connection? I wouldnt be this mad, but I grinded my * off for a good team and a week before GWC starts, the input lag happens to appear in every single game.
@HYDEEZY They don't care. Just don't buy the game next year. It sucks its the only hockey game on the market but their online experience is never going to change unless they have competition. They still make a ridiculous amount of money off the average gamer who wouldn't notice the games flaws.
Hi! We are 3 on our team in eashl,we play 6v6. All 3 of us has fatman lag. Feels like the player is glued to the ice we cant pass a pass, the bots can make a single good play. People pass straight through us. Cant win a single faceoff. The list can be much longer of things that dosent work. I have 4ms in ping my teammates have 10 and 12. We all live in Sweden Cant play the game any more. I have bought every game from 1993-2022 . Now i fel like this is the last game im gonna buy. Not fun to play when you’re not playing on the same terms as other teams.
Is this issue really solved. I don,t think so. Sience october to this day is same lag issues. All this time this game is unplayable. Couple times played nhl21 and there is not same problem. Redicilous say, your hardware or other settings is wrong. Why you can,t say your game is unfixable. Resume nhl21 hut servers, that game work little better..
We still haven't noticed any trouble with the servers that would be causing input lag. If you want to go through the troubleshooting, let me know. We can't rule out any connection issues without it.
I haven't posted in a few months, and essentially stopped playing the game except a few times a month to test it out. I've been dealing with awful input delay since about December. I replaced every piece of hardware possible, upgraded my internet and had that tested. I did have an Xbox server upload issue which recently resolved, and yet NHL was still delayed. Online and offline this issue manifested. It didn't make sense. Especially since, say, MLB22 did not have this issue.
I've factory reset my Xbox Series X a dozen times (even briefly bought a new Series S). I've reinstalled the game another 20 times. But what I just did yesterday for the first time was delete all NHL save data from my Xbox. I don't think deleting the game itself does this, or even transferring data onto a new Xbox. Long story short......my input delay felt much better for the first time in ages. Now, I played tonight, and it started to feel worse and worse, close to as bad as before. So, I deleted all save data again, reloaded the game, and.....it felt normal-ish again. I'm convinced there is some bug that corrupts save data or something and causes the input delay. I'll try this again tomorrow, maybe multiple times.
Your HUT is saved on our servers so deleting this data won't affect it. To delete your personal saved data, press the Guide button and then highlight the NHL 22 tile. Then, hit the Menu button. It's the small one to the right of the Guide button with 3 horizontal lines on it. Next, go to Manage game and add-ons > Saved data. Delete the file with your gamertag on it. There is the risk of losing offline saves and changes to settings you've made. Normally, those download from the cloud, but I can't guarantee this. Let me know what happens.
No. It all saves on Cloud. I posted that 3 weeks ago, but after a couple nights, my delay returned despite repeatedly deleting all data. I noticed that it still loads the game as it does previously if you delete all your data. So, I figured out if you do it while offline, then delete all data, then load the game, it will boot up from scratch -- like when you loaded it for the first time. It felt a bit better again when I did that.
No one even responded to my post in 3 weeks, so I can tell how urgent a matter this is. But I'm still convinced something is corrupting the cache or the game data. I've replaced every single piece of hardware, and this issue happens online and offline. Nothing makes sense except that. I purchased another Xbox yesterday (I have my original Series X, then tested a Series S in February) just to clear up loose ends.
I think you've done most everything I can suggest. I don't see you mentioning QoS. Does your router support this? If so, make sure it's enabled. Also, is game mode enabled on your TV/monitor? I assume so, but haven't seen a mention of that yet either.
@EA_AljoMy router does not have QoS, but I'm plugged directly into my personal modem without any sort of traffic besides myself. I have a 1 ms BenQ monitor and a 1 ms ASUS, and they both have the same issues. Both have worked previously until this started occurring around December. Other games I don't detect this issue.

Again, I usually test this issue in offline Free Skate. Which means it can't be internet related. It feels infinitely worse in online of course. I played the last two nights on my new Series S, and it felt good at first, but night two it started feeling heavy. I switched to my Series X tonight, and my usual input delay was there (including my weird stops whenever trying to turn). I switched back to my Series S within minutes, and while those input stop/start issues weren't there which makes the game unplayable, it still felt unmistakably heavy in offline Free Skate......
But within half an hour, after resetting my Series S a couple times and deleting my NHL data, I went into Free Skate, and lo and behold, my exact stop/start delay issues were there on my NEW Xbox with a brand new controller and HDMI.
The only possible thing that makes any sense is that there is a bug with the game that affects the cloud or cache or both. I don't know why it's happening to me or my data file, but it's not happenstance that night 1 it felt fine out of the box before getting worse nights 2 and 3. But 3 Xboxs have this exact issue online and offline? With every piece of hardware replaced? I'm well past the point of insanity trying to decipher this issue. It's so clearly a game issue. I wish a game engineer could be of some help.
Thanks for the details. We'll certainly keep an eye out for this. Personally, I play on both an Xbox One and Xbox Series X with no delay. I have had input lag issues in the past, but using game mode as well as upgrading my router took care of that. Regardless, we're not aware of an issue within the game that is causing this as we don't get that many reports of this in comparison to the overall playerbase. I'm not saying we don't know for sure that it's an issue with the game or servers, but so far, we're not able to reproduce it. There's a lot going on with connections we can't test for though. It could be unique to your equipment and ISP. It's very odd that this happens in free skate. I haven't seen reports of that in the past but will keep monitoring for them.
@EA_AljoThe only thing that makes sense is some data is corrupted and being transferred over from system to system. If this was only online? I don't have ISP issues but sure, plausible. But offline modes too? Tonight, my new Series S feels exactly the same as my old Series X. Unmistakably.
My router/modem has been upgraded along with my internet package to a GB download plan. But I'm sure it's not that b/c it's offline. There's not a piece of hardware connected to my gaming that hasn't been swapped 2-5x. I even purchased NHL22 on disc just for the yucks.
I wish there was a way to totally erase all my data from my account, just to test this out. Something is corrupted with the game data or how it interacts with my Xboxs because it's moving from system to system like a virus.
