Another tech support guy is insisting it's my connection to the internet, but it's not. I can play other game types, and the other account can play all game types on the same console and connection.
Does anyone know to "reset" you EA account or something similar?
Yeah I don't think the problem is with your internet. Were you caught boosting/ griefing/ selling coins outside of the game, etc. by any chance? Black marks, suspensions, mutes, and bans can negatively affect future titles, not just the current one you were playing at the time.
By a reset, you basically mean to "turn it off and then back on again", right? Honestly, I don't think that will do much but it's worth a try - Gurpreet was right though, there is a high chance of losing certain data.
You're no longer able to use weird letters for your character's name (much to my dismay) but maybe there is something else that is messing things up? Try changing your Chel info and maybe leave the current team you're on; in the last 10 years of modern hockey I've only ever seen it twice, but maybe your profile data is corrupted? That's the only explanation I have for other accounts working and these problems occurring in Ones and Threes.
Save your current character profile data to a flashdrive and then delete what you have on your system - if this doesn't kickstart a change you can always add it back.

No, nothing malicious from my end. I've been playing ea nhl since 06. At least even if there was some sort of suspension I was never aware. And I can still play other ea games including nhl 19.
I'm basically going to create a new EA account and have them switch it out. I was told the wrong thing earlier and I deleted my account through them, which is why my name is a random GUID. But another one is recovering the account because the account has to be active in order to be able to swap it with another account. So that's what I'm about to try.
Anywho, thanks for dealing with my ramblings and research.

This is me again. I tried switch EA accounts but that did not work. My new Xbox live account works. So the o ly difference is the gamertag.
I found someone else on Reddit who is also dealing with this: https://www.reddit.com/r/EA_NHL/comments/d49cn0/onesthrees_eliminator/
Is there something possible with Xbox account settings that could affect this?

That is super interesting that changing gamertags allowed you to join. That is a great start in troubleshooting this. I have the same issue and I switched to my wife's account and I can join a game instantly. So what would that even mean? What is wrong with our gamertags/EA Account?

@djraybear Is your new gamertag connected to your old ea account? And that works?

So I just spent a long time making changes to my gamertag. I had a custom gamerpic and changed it to a standard one and I suddenly started getting games now.

Confirmed by another user having the same issue that changing your gamerpic fixed the issue.
